1. Exhilarating. Exciting. Wow what an atmosphere and game last night. Punches and counter punches yet neither team could get the KO until their K drilled a 57 yard FG into the very game and scrappy Pitt Panther's hearts. Although the good guys ended up on the wrong side of the ledger this is why you play these types of games out of conference.
2. Pitt has found a QB. Pocket presence. Great arm. Clutch. Amnesia when he makes a mistake. Able to hit check down receivers. So on and so forth. Enough with the QB carousel - Peterman is the man!
3. Tyler Boyd - Wow what more can you say? Double and sometimes triple teamed last night and still finds a way to get open and make clutch plays. Dare I say he's Fitz-like and destined to make a ton of ca$h next year.
4. Wow what a change in culture, attitude, aggressiveness and discipline with this staff. No head-scratching penalties. No madding delay of game penalties after a timeout. Just good, clean buckle up yo chin strap FB. Guys laughing, having fun, flying around the ball. Playin with some SWAG finally. Recruits have to take notice. Don't they?
5. Thought the D played with an edge not seen at Pitt since the early 80's. Was it just me or were we layin some licks on the Iowa QB? He's one tough and talented hombre. Also loved the press coverage and the multiple fronts and shifting.
6. Lots of big runs left on the field last night but that can be expected when you lose an elite talent like Jimmy Conner and trot out two Freshman in the backfield in a hostile environment under the bright lights. Puzzling decisons on short yardage to leave Ollison on the sideline and use Hall, who by the way looks like a RS Jr. & is a real physical specimen. Pumped to see these guys as Juniors.
7. Outside of the crushing hit on the blitz I'm not sure what other posters watching Galambos are seeing. He is just too slow to be a starting D1/P5 LB. Not very instinctive. Takes bad angles. Lost in coverage. Think Wirginis gives us more physically but maybe MG is a tad more cerebral.
8. Lafayette Pitts is sure a conundrum. Looks the part of an NFL CB. Physical. Tough. Fast. Just can't seem to find the ball - ever! I've always wondered if he might not be better suited to play Safety where he could keep everything in front and play downhill!
9. JP Holtz and Scott Orndorf will play on Sunday's. Just two very good TE's that are finally being utilized.
10. Need an infusion of talent at DE, LB, P and WR although I'm not sure what Chaney is doing by not playing a speed bug type of slot guy like Hendeson and/or Tipton against a team like Iowa. Thought there were a lot of plays to be had against the Hawkeyes in the short middle and sideways passes to RB's played right to their strengths rather than exploiting their weaknesses. Why recruit these slot guys if you're never gonna utilize them?
10a. Like a few other posters have so ably mentioned I thought the two biggest plays of the game were the 4th and inches "Big Ben Special" and the inability to tackle Iowa's return man until he reached the 30 after the squib kick. All the momentum in the stadium shifted back to Iowa after that draw them offsides BS but it was really the only blip in an otherwise solid coaching performance by HCPN. In additon fatigue may have played a part on the last kickoff. Guys may have also wrongly assumed the KR was jumping out of bounds to save time.
10b. Anyone know what happened to KK? Jarrett is a beast but he clearly was worn out in the 4th quarter because those same middle runs were not there in quarters 1-3. Still think Tyrique will be cashing Sunday checks after another year with this staff.
Hey tip your caps to Iowa. Just a great night of FB under the lights.
H2P!
