I prefer and believe Pitt AD Selection Committee will turn to choose AD's or Staffers that mirror the work at TCU, Baylor, Missy State, Ole Miss, and UCLA. These ADs and their Staffs have the experience in rebuilding and reinvesting the Conference Money.

Today and in the coming years, the future of University Athletics is in Branding that provides the resources for Athletic Departments to hire and help Coaches to succeed, and uniting the Alumni and Sponsorships.

1. It is no longer matter of finding a great coach on the upside and then moving on to a bigger Program. Finding, choosing and keeping great coaches that have the ability to win is also dependent on making sure he has the resources to keep winning. This is not easily done, but TCU does have Patterson and Baylor did find Briles that have no desire to leave those schools where they built their Top 15 and 10 Football Programs. It began with their College President's Vision and hiring the right hiring the Athletic Director that shared, embraced and implement that visions. Then and only then, were both able to choose and find coaches that could develop Teams that won on a high level, and at the same time the branding and sponsorships kept attracting Alumni and Fans.

2. TCU and UCLA are Urban Schools and have grown in the shadows of bigger and Richer Traditional Programs that surround them and compete with them. Baylor is a Private School competing with A&M, Texas, TT, TCU and host of other Programs. Much like Pitt that is now less than 5% State Related having less public funding. UCLA has had to deal with USC's traditions, recruiting, and winning, and 90,000 Fans. Yet, both Universities have been able to not just survive but thrive due to smart Athletic Directors chosen by smarter College Presidents and both choosing great coaches.

3. Some will say, all these Schools and Programs just got lucky to find Coaches that are great at winning, rebuilding the Programs, and still have to keep them from leaving, but that ignores what they have done it too. Unlike the previous Pitt Athletic Directors that came here for the opportunity to really do a temporary job so they could go elsewhere. Pitt cannot afford just finding the latest AD hot shot as Nordenberg did in 1996. Pitt was at a bottom place in a different time and conference. Rebuilding Pitt Football and Basketball was difficult but together they made it happen for that past period. Yet, it was unstable the whole time due to outside conference changing events and inside decisions some good and others mistakes but did lead to the ACC.

4. Today, the ACC's stable athletic budgets provides Pitt with a new opportunity to expand Pitt Athletics. The trouble attracting and choosing Coaches and isolating the Alumni and Fan Based instead of uniting it, need no longer happen. Steve Pederson's Branding was a complete long term failure because Pederson only came to Pitt for his own short gain purposes and ambitions, so he could leave for Nebraska. When Nebraska saw Pederson could not maintain a Top 25 Program they fired him wisely. Nordenberg using Pitt Funds put out his hand to pick up Pederson's crawling career back to Pitt, and did even a worst job in making some poor decisions until he was fired. Yet, outside conference expanding events came a calling, but this time Pitt was ready for it.

5. Therefore, Pitt does not need just a the latest hot Athletic Director Candidate but one coming to Pitt to fulfill Chancellor Gallagher Visions in the ACC. The Select Committee and Alumnus are looking to rebuild and unite Alumni and Fans with Pitt Football to complete Gallagher's Vision, and maintain it. Just like, it is being sustained and maintained at TCU and Baylor for close to a Decade. Even with coaching changes that have happen at Ole Miss, Missy State, and UCLA they all went through over the past few years, they found Athletic Directors that can choose such coaches.

6. Unlike the times and plans in 1996, Pitt needs a Special Athletic Director unlike Pederson. Pederson was ambitious to rebuild Pitt Athletics, but never committed to Pitt. Pederson's true and only visions was to head to his Alma Mater Nebraska. Where Pederson could not even maintain a Top 25 Program let alone build one at Pitt where he never had plans to
sustain Pitt and eventually failed because his own buyouts were more important than the Programs he thought he can run. This time Pitt must avoid such short term AD's with large freak control egos and selfish branding of only him.

7. Pitt is competing with WVU that has built a Fan Base in hiring their own in Coach Rod's winning and Oliver Luck smarts, but both left WVU and were temporary solutions too. Even President Gee is a temporary fit in his 70's too. They proved it is not always about just bringing back Alumni or an old retread President, it is far more important to believe in hiring a Chancellor that will be there to insure his vision will happen for the long run not short term gains. Pitt must avoid those kind of mistakes on choosing the next AD. Pitt must find the right person that can implement such a mutual vision and secure the resources to make it happen. This includes finding the right Coaches that want to be at Pitt, and stays at Pitt, and wins big at Pitt!

8. Anyone saying including me, that thinks Pitt can just tap the Latest, Hottest, and Most Recommended person to be the next Athletic Director is missing the most important point of my posts. It still depends on Chancellor Gallagher's Vision and the right Person that fits that vision and develops the resources to make that Vision happen together. It includes choosing the same type of people as coaches with that same Vision. They all know winning comes with staying in compliance with all rules and turning that Vision into realities of winning within those rules. Anyone and that includes me, thinking the Pitt Athletic Director Selection Committee can choose some candidates and recommend them to Gallagher and that is it, is missing the tough task that actually required during this process.

9. This Athletic Director Candidate has to not only sell him or her to the Committee, they have to truly want to be part of Pitt, and must mesh with Gallagher's Vision. Only Gallagher and the Candidate can know that in order to do it together. It is not just a Gallagher's delegation to get it done, but a commitment to work together to rebuild, stabilize, and advance Pitt Athletics every day and then maintain it every day, even if coaches come and go until they find the right one that wants to stay and share that visions along with them. Maybe it is Narduzzi & Staff but until Pitt hires the AD we will then maybe see?

10. I have no clue whom will be selected, but I am glad, Gallagher has said, it may take a long time, because that is exactly the time Pitt needs to find that person. It is not just about coming back home, or back to Pitt, or wanting to prove they can do it so they can just go on bigger jobs. It is about truly caring about Pitt with Chancellor Gallagher and with all Administrators, Alumni, Contributors, Sponsors, Coaches, Students, and Fans. It is truly about growing all of them together including all of you and me into that same Vision, Commitment, and Winning at, for, and by Pitt together. Just like all Great Football Programs are built without violating NCAA, Title IX and other Rules and Regulations during the very time College Football and the NCAA is undergoing unknown changes. Yet, we do know those unknown changes will require more resources, more up to date facilities all the time, and acquiring wealthy resources to grow every day as well, and must come from 10+ Game yearly winning in more years than less.

11. Pitt must build upon with someone that wants to be at Pitt and not just use Pitt to grow richer and seek out bigger jobs like Pederson. Pederson in the end, had more failures at Pitt and at Nebraska that got him fired, Pederson was Hot Shot Salesman but cared more about himself with his bigger ego that only branded Pederson not Pitt or Nebraska and that is why he was fired twice. Instead of providing good management of branding Pitt, Nebraska and Pitt again, Pederson disrespected the Alumni, University Traditions, and paid for his Secret Consultants, that were more about flash than real deeds that succeed. Pederson taking millions in buyouts based on his failures is not due because he was successful. Drug Dealers, Prostitutes, and some CEO's sell themselves every day and make lots of money. Yet, they always lack true long term Vision and eventually end up hurting them and those around them. They do not see using others to help yourself, will provide one to be comfortable in life, but that is not true wealth? Those goals does not make one successful by any means, and short term visions don't have value overt time. They are as phony as Steve Pederson is and glad handing, having private deals with consultants, proved wrong even if he did accomplish rebuilding Pitt Football and Basketball. Pederson branding himself proved his methods failed to produce or maintain a Top 25 Program. Pitt has to avoid the temptation of hiring such people, that look very successful but are more slick in the sale than creating long term results.

12. Pitt Chancellor Gallagher Vision for Pitt Athletics should take the time to find the right person. If that can happen, this will be the right time to support Pitt. More importantly, all will know they hired the right person, because that person will know how to attract all of us to commit to Pitt. This New Athletic Director will get it done, and need not be from Pitt, but must want to be part of Pitt for a long time with the same success Pitt has been built upon since 1789!

Let's hope the Selection Committee can find such a person that can mesh with Chancellor Gallagher and get it done with growing wins into providing the Football Programs stability and maintaining it. Other Universities have been able to do with far less traditions, winning, and resources than Pitt possesses due to prior Coaches, Players, and Alumni.

It is not just a matter of getting lucky either. It is a matter of the Select Committee having the resources and intent to attract and make a good judgment on whom will fit the job. The best people for any job anytime have the true passion in loving what they do and that makes it look easy because they love it. Even then, they then must meet with Gallagher and both must know they want the same things to happen at Pitt.

TCU, Baylor, and UCLA may not have cured Polio but they found College Presidents, that brought the right people together that chose the right Athletic Directors that created Programs capable of finding people to win 10+ games per year, and staying there selling coaches, recruits, players, alumni and fans on their mutual visions of excellence in athletics!

If there is Candidate within the current Athletic Department that knows how about Pitt can use branding for growth just as TCU, Baylor and UCLA are doing, learned how to correct the mistakes Steve Pederson, and can be part of Gallagher's Vision Partner that has stayed and will stay a long time to do it together, that is fine with me too.

Bottom line, unlike all Pitt Chancellors before Gallagher I would prefer choosing a very Special Athletic Director that has the Highest Caliber and Character that comes with Smarts devoted to Pitt success. At the highest level, and stays at Pitt for a long time doing just that regardless who is the Chancellor, Coaches, and Administrators in the future.
