Just have a few random thoughts/questions about Pitt's Recruiting for this Saturday Morning.
1. Has Manigault fallen off the radar a little bit? Haven't seen his name mention in a while...his team was on ESPNU the other day, and I don't remember hearing it at all, unless I missed it..obviously, he still has another year left where he could take a huge step forward.
2. Hopefully the 2015 class ends with a splash..Diallo, a top recruit out of nowhere..At this moment, Pitt is at it's limit with 2 commits..I would expect Haughton/Ucehbo to maybe move on/medical hardship...that would leave two more scholarships available...Pitt would definitely need one more big and maybe BPA...Pitt should have 2 additional shooters next year in both Johnson's for the 2015 season. Levi Cook, mystery recruits,..??
3. I like Tervell Black's game..big-bodied guard that is a slasher and can penetrate too.
4. Don't know how many scholarships Pitt will have for the 2016 class - JRob, Durand..??? 2016 could be a solid class, but don't know about available scholarships..I'm sure Matt can delve into that a little more than I can..seems like Pitt is casting a wide-ranging net, as it typically does, but lots of names are being mentioned that I can't even remember..maybe a couple kids in the New England area..Tyrique Jones (haven't heard his name in a while).
5. 2017 will probably have the most available scholarships with the 5-person sophomore class in Young, Artis, Newkirk, Jones and Jeter...maybe Pitt will add another Jeter in that class..
6. Like every year, it seems with Pitt recently, there's turnover (many schools are the same way of course with transfers, etc).
Tough to speculate now, but it's bound to happen...
7. It stinks to hear Diallo's leader is probably ISU..great program over the past 4ish years with Hoiberg at the helm..great team, fun to watch, nice venue and good fans...hopefully Wilson is in his ear about coming to Pitt.
That's all I have for now..I probably should write something about this year's team since that's obviously very important too.
- This team will have its ups-and-downs, hopefully win the games you're supposed to and maybe shock a couple top-tier ACC teams too. NCAA tourney a possibility? Yes...more of an NIT team? I believe so...It's going to be a group effort every night and a grind-it-out type of game. Hopefully there's some positive surprises over the next 6 weeks in the ACC season.
Need JRob to come out of his slump and for Artis, Young and Wright, on some nights, to carry this team and be physical with their defense and tenacious play. Essentially only losing Wright for next season is ok, and adding the Johnson's, Wilson, Nix, plus 1-2 other players for 2015. Fingers-crossed for the staff to finish off this season with a bang in recruiting and the ACC.
