I don't think I'll ever understand the people who are shocked when we don't draw dick for Thursday night games. The only Thursday games I recall being big draws were:

2010 Miami game when people thought we would be good and all of the alumni came back.

2001 Miami game when Heinz Field was brand new and Miami was number 1 in the country.

2006 WVU games because WVU fans.

Every other Thursday game has been in the 38,000-48,000 range. When are we finally going to realize that our fan base is what the numbers say it is? It swells to about 54,000 for big games, but if you banned opposing fans from buying tickets you would get about 56,000 max at a game. And guess what? That's not bad. Arizona State just cut the capacity of Sun Devil Stadium to 57,000. Autzen Stadium in Oregon holds 54,000. Minnesota's new stadium holds 50,000.

Pitt is an adult sized medium trying to wear an extra large jacket.

5-2 playing the #25 team in the country. Not only was the crowd weak to begin with, but then people left with the game in the balance. There is no sugar coating it.

USF was ranked when we played them in 2011 - 48,000 there.
both UNC and Pitt were ranked last year - 43,000 there.

We are what we are.

The only thing that fixes this problem is an on campus stadium AND consistent support from the administration. That's it. Winning more will not work. And it will take years/decades of effort. Students riding school buses across the city to games doesn't build a solid enough experience for future season ticket holders, and we have been doing that for about 15 years now. The 10 years prior were mostly lost because of extremely crappy on field performance, as a result of the administration dropping the ball continually in the 80s and early 90s.

I'm not sure why people can't understand this. I guess it's like the JoeBots refusing to see that Joe was a flawed man. Some of you will never, ever take off the Pitt colored glasses. I wonder how long it will take for Barnes to bolt? Giving students pizza and forming a committee with a fake selection process won't solve the real problems. We need real, long term solutions.
