I have a question for those with knowledge of football coaching. Why is it that the tight end position requires a coach dedicated to the tight end only. I have seen this coaching assignment at many schools and even pro teams. Not just at Pitt.
I realize that he must block and run passing routes but, why do head coaches choose to assign one eighth of their available resources to one twenty secondth of the players on the field. Is the position that complicated. Can't the O-line coach and the wide receiver coach share the assignment responsibilities? Thanks in advance for your help.
