The excitement around football recruiting was palpable. The use of social media by the coaches (probably went close to the line of a violation) gave the air of an aggressive approach. Whether this was an attempt to break from the prior regime or a shot across the bow to PSU, or just the personality of the head coach, it certainly was a welcome change.

There is a reported attempt by football to chase after higher rated players and take on the bluebloods. Is there a difference in the amount of time a courtship takes between the two sports? While football has many more coaches on the road (for 5 times the number of recruits) is it a lack of time, money, personnel, focus with our basketball coaches. Is AAU in basketball so dirty that nothing in football rivals it?

Certainly it is harder to " recruit over" in basketball with so many less scholarships and Pitt has a general policy of not pulling scholarships for lack of performance. Mistakes hurt more than in football.

I hope the change, if not in staff, is a change in focus, targets, and buzz.

This is more hype than accurate. Your point about mistakes hurt more in basketball than football is very true. But if you go by the so called "star" ratings, basketball has been much more successful in terms of % of 4 and 5 stars versus total commits. But the hype revolves around football pulling in 20+ players so recruiting give positive reinforcement constantly throughout the year along with the Stiller fans thinking they are football film experts and producing more excitement as they pretend to evaluate films of said prospects. As a Pitt alum, I certainly hope and sometimes pray that Narduzzi brings football back to some prominence, but all the antics have generated more hype among fans than results compared to basketball recruiting.

Just hard to stay excited about 3/4 commits a year versus 25, especially when 4 stars tend to be evaluated quickly as they need to play versus the Grimm's that can be hid away under a redshirt and almost forgotten as the hype of recruiting kicks in again over a new group of 17/18 year old kids.
