Tobacco Road Officiating

I tend to go back ‘n forth on the Tobacco Road officiating. Sometimes I think it’s biased, but there are times when the southern teams gets hosed, too. All-in-all, I lean toward the idea that these clowns are just extremely incompetent.

These clowns are the only officials whom I’ve ever seen who can’t even get the call correct after seeing the replay.

It's crazy that...

1) They couldn't get something so obvious correctly called on the field

2) They actually weren't even going to replay it... even with the TV timeout! They stop the game for the most random things, and they weren't going to look at THAT?!

3) When Dino did challenge it, they upheld a terrible call in spite of indisputable evidence to the contrary. Just wild.

On top of already being a yard short, I thought he also fumbled backwards out of bounce.

You saw it correctly, he did fumble backwards.

When the two choices are vast conspiracy or incompetence, usually it's just incompetence.

But vast conspiracy makes for a better story.
I mean anyone who thinks Duke , Wake , UNC , and NCSU matter enough in football for a global referee conspiracy -
Likely needs their brain scanned for a tumor.

Yeah, if the ACC was trying to cheat to help someone win games they would be cheating to help Clemson, Florida State and Miami. And unless I missed some big news today while I was watching football, neither of those three are in North Carolina.

Why the hell would they want to help a 2-loss Clemson over a UNC team that has a shot at the playoff?

UNC isn't the 4th most valuable brand of those teams, either. They might be more sought after than Miami and possibly Clemson.

If we were just talking about this year the fact that UNC appears to be better than Clemson this year would be a really valid point.

You understand that this theory has been going around for a long, long time, right? As in decades, not weeks.

ya thinks refs helping was why UnC beat Syracuse by 23?

I think 40 - 7 = 33, and I think that call, including the review process that accompanied it, was one of the shadiest things I've seen.

I don't think there is some grand pen-to-paper conspiracy, but I do think an opportunity for inherent biases exists when a conference is so NC-centric. Enough to make a material difference? Who knows.

That is why it shocks me that UNC wants to leave ACC. They will become insignificant in both football and basketball without the home cooking.

I wish I would have included the part about the ACC officials' disdain for Miami in this yesterday. It honestly crossed my mind. They routinely are among the FBS leaders in penalties, and I've seen them get flagged for personal fouls that other teams don't. Damn. Could have added some merit to the idea of a conspiracy after that fumble call.

Refs clearly are biased to a 33 point differential ,
To support that powerhouse UNC football program .
Then they forgot to help Wake win .
Then they decided GT was close enough , so they submarined a ranked Miami team .

You’re grasping at straws to believe a conspiracy that doesn’t exist

They ain’t winning Big Ten or SEC. You are just one of those Red Pill swallowers who once lived in Carolina. Every one knows how utterly stupid you are so just shut up.
You think those conferences are better in basketball ?
I despise UNC but they are a historic and current blue blood .
3 national championships since 2000
Made a final four at least once every decade for 9 consecutive decades .

Literally the most successful basketball program over the last 50 years

But , yeah .
Good call
