Tom Clements leaving Packers

I learned from the Canada and Chaney hires. No one is terrible until proven terrible at Pitt. He's a Pittsburgh guy. Should make some people happy.

Whatever. Keep up the tradition of bitching about everything. Solves everything.

Stallings was left with a garbage roster but it's all his fault

I don't care if it's a Pittsburgh guy. I don't think that it should have any bearing on the hire.

But turn on the fan and listen to the yinzers when they are discussing any Pitt hire.

I'm just annoyed that a well respected coach who was an nfl head coaching candidate a few times in his career is immediately labeled as a terrible choice.

The guy hasn't worked in college football since 1995. If the Steelers wanted to bring him in as an offensive assistant of some sort I'd be interested but I don't want Pitt hiring a guy who hasn't worked with college kids in 20 years.

Ok - would u be upset if Mike Munchak were hired as OC?

Not that I am an enthusiastic backer of Clement's candidacy, if he is in fact a candidate, but I strongly believe this staff could be stregthened by a coach with a W.Pa. connection. I think it would be beneficial to add a coach from Pitt's backyard where our recruiting has only been fair. UPS's hiring of Terri Smith and Moorhead was smart given their W.Pa. connections. Back in the day Pitt had Andy Urbanic from Penn Hills and he was instrumental in recruiting kids from W. Pa. You guys who automatically reject Pittsburgh guys aren't what I would describe as strategic thinkers.

The man was the AHC, OC, and QB coach of the Packers for the last decade. He is the guy who helped lead Rodgers from a backup to Superbowl MVP. He is the guy who helped Matt Flynn to look like a pro-bowler. I don't think there is a chance in hell it is him but the lack of respect towards him is comical.

He's started coaching in 1975. so from 1975 his only college experience is from 1992-1995. No thanks!

the college game is a different compared the NFL.

besides Narduzzi values college experience, the proof is in his first two hires. unless narduzzi has missed on a lot of guys, i don't see this happening.

I'm saying he's the ideal candidate but only that some of you are throwing out the baby with the bath water in a knee jerk negative reaction to someone with a Pittsburgh connection. By the way, I told you the announcement of the OC would likely occur after LOI day!

No one automatically rejected Pittsburgh guys. People said it is stupid and short sighted to bring in a Pittsburgh guy because he is a Pittsburgh guy. The best coaches (that includes recruiting) need to come in, whether they are from California, Alabama, or McKees Rocks.

How is he the ideal candidate? He is 64 years old and hasn't coached in college for 20+ years. I'm not saying he is a bad choice, but him being a "Pittsburgh guy" means essentially nothing to his qualifications. He certainly isn't a terrible choice, but he has at least 2 very big detractors with regard to his age and his college experience.

only someone who is completely unfamiliar with Clements' background would suggest that if he were a candidate it was solely because he was from Pittsburgh. Raising the Pittsburgh angle the way it was raised was stupid.

Point of clarification: His coaching career started in 1992. He was a very successful CFL QB before then.

He's started coaching in 1975. so from 1975 his only college experience is from 1992-1995. No thanks!
