tOSU just doesn't take football seriously.

I find this interesting, but I'm not sure I buy it, especially the accuracy of the figures. I wished he had named the recruit.

Also, it seems almost too convenient that the other school in question is the Buckeye's playoff opponent. I haven't really dug into it though.

Yeah, color me a skeptic as well.

It's every bit as likely that OSU lost a recruit to Georgia, which surely isn't any huge shock, and Ryan Day saw the opportunity to make sure that his boosters know that when he told them they needed to come up with a lot of NIL money that he wasn't kidding.

"If you folks don't come up with a lot more money fast we aren't going to be able to get any top recruits any longer. So start ponying up that cash now!"

The only thing that will change is OSU will bid more next time. The NCAA has no way to stop this

Will they, though? It's possible that they will consistently get outbid by some SEC schools. It's an arms race and perhaps, OSU won't be able to build as many nukes.

OSU outbid for a player? First time in a hundred years that happened. I bet they miss the good old days of handing out escalades on four year test drives.

It wouldn’t shock me if this is true, let’s be real Georgia and Alabama have unlimited money due too donors they will shell out whatever they need

this is a fundraising tactic for tosu. they probably got 7 figures the day this story got out..
Might have been you joking, and a good one, but it’s a good point, actually. Penn State didn’t immediately dispute the (weak sauce) NCAA sanctions for the Sandusky/Paterno/Bradley rapes. Their outraged satanic donors thus rose (lowered?) to the occasion and produced millions in donations, presumably for the anticipated long term legal battle with the NCAA.

Of course, the NCAA (in a preordained move) backed down on everything with no fight at all…which as noted was the plan all along. The state of PA (aka taxpayers) paid for the relative pittance scraps that the victims (remember them? It’s ok, nobody else does either) were tossed to assure their silence. So PSU football emerged much, much richer from the whole “ordeal” that they “suffered”. Ohio State will likely see the same; their massive boosters will drive dump trucks of cash to Columbus if they truly did lose a recruit due to money … or, as you suggest, with even the mere PERCEPTION that it happened.

You wonder why we question God’s existence (in the parallel thread about Leach) when such garbage can go on without retribution…More like God’s counterpart seems to actually rule.

Awh poor O$u they now know how it feels .

There is no way this actually happened. 100% BS. There are so many things there that doesn't add up, it would be too time consuming to break it all down,

This is nothing more than an attempt to drum up some more NIL cash from gullible overzealous Buckeye fans.

Seems like all of the Big Ten schools are crying poor when it comes to NIL. OSU, Michigan, and PSU all seem to be saying the same thing. Perhaps it is just a naked PR siren call for more dollars.

The day will come, sooner rather than later, that TV money from the conference payouts will be available for NIL. It's inevitable, because all it is is a type of revenue-sharing. And when that happens, the ACC is really going to be left behind.

The thing is though that really evens at the playing field is there’s only so many scholarships and schools for these guys to go to. Sure they’ll get the “” big recruits The thing is though that really evens at the playing field is there’s only so many scholarships and schools for these guys to go to. Sure they’ll get the “” big recruits call”” but there are still a lot of guys who can be just as productive and just as great of players who are five stars and four stars who have to be recruited. This is why I think that a lot of these players who want to get paid should just go to the XFL.

It's already available indirectly. TV money and conference distributions ultimately end up in the same kitty as donations. All they need to do is direct the donations towards NIL, which is likely what's already starting to happen at many schools.

Pitt needs to wake up here too. Instead, they're doubling down on emails for Panther Club donations with double points before re-parking takes place.

You might want to ask God why he doesn't act against injustice, or is it that you are afraid that he might ask you the same thing?

The number of scholarships a school is allowed to give is going to be changing in the next few years. The NCAA is all but out of the discussion in college football.

I agree. But the question remains about whether or not this is good for mid-tier schools like most of the ACC. If OSU and Michigan and Georgia can take as many kids as they want and can afford, that does not benefit the great majority of CFB teams. These kids will eventually hit the portal if they succeed, but when that happens it will require significant NIL to purchase their services.

The reality is, there are more have-nots in FBS. They all need to band together and try to create some pressure where the top 10-12 programs don't get to do everything that they want that only benefits them.

All of the ACC outside of Miami (and maybe Lville) needs to wake up. And I’m including Clemson in that as well. Dabo’s outdated thinking as it relates to NIL and transfer portal and “keeping it in the family” in terms of coaching hires isn’t helping Clemson.

I don’t think Michigan is crying poor. They just refuse on principle to spend money on the high school side. Michigan is going to pay a ton in NIL. But only to established college players. They refuse to do that for high school players. But not because they literally can’t afford to do it, and I don’t think Michigan collectives or insiders are even pretending that’s the reason why they refuse to do it.

That's certainly their approach. They don't want to pay untested/unproven kids, which of course makes sense. The problem is, nothing about NIL makes any sense right now, and they may not get away with their plan.

However, I disagree with you on their collectives. If you ramble thru their boards there is significant wailing about difficulties raising big sums. It's not something they are used to doing. It will change, though.

OSU losing the #1 overall recruit and their QB is awesome. Nice to see the big boys take it on the chin once in a while.

Right. tOSU alumni remain academic snobs to a certain degree. The Georgia and Alabammy knuckledraggers have no such pretensions.

Every school in the Big Ten and SEC will have the money to afford the extra scholarships and would not be surprised to see a few schools in the ACC, Big 12, and PAC pony up to compete.
