After getting rid of Johnson and Toney, this team was said to be more "together." Yet after the Vandy game, Femi said people were bickering with each other during that run and Capel mentioned how he told the team that Pippen was so happy for his teammates making plays and didn't care if he was doing the scoring.

How is this still happening? Say what you want about Stallings 0-18 but those were good kids who played hard, loved their coach and did well in school. Capel's guys play like they dont even like basketball

Yea - I thought it was a good hire initially and tried to give Capel the benefit of the doubt. But it is just one red flag after another at this point. 1 HS recruit over the last 2 classes is unacceptable.

I watch these games, generally more than once,

It "could" be more of the team, but the culprit of this again was Big John who was fighting with Burton in the 2nd half when the game was slipping away. Both repeatedly screwed up on defense and at one point were blaming each other on the floor when they failed to communicate defensively. Both were bad on defense last game and both of them should be blaming themselves and not one another.

John has to get it together mentally. Ill give Burton a pass because he just came back from injury, but he should be a lot better than what he has shown so far on defense.

I said preseason, this isn’t the mighty ducks. Just because these kids “like” each other off the court and May for the most part be good people, doesn’t mean they are good at basketball. And therein lies the problem. We have too many players with too big of gaps in their games (all of them) and they’re more like the island of misfit toys than the mighty ducks. It’s a disaster and is only gonna get worse. The fact KenPom only has 40 spots higher than UMBC tomorrow is embarrassing.

I think we can see the likely outcome here. Once this disaster of a season comes to an end, there will be a mass exodus. And no matter how much HCJC is owed, it will be over. There will be no choice.

Good let them all leave. We need a new coach, new staff and all new players.

This…liking each other and chemistry becomes important when you already have talent in place. It’s kind of silly to analyze how together they are when they aren’t good enough to compete at an ACC level,

And that’s on Capel - not this group. Isn’t their fault. I’m still rooting for them

The most surprising thing to me about Capel is that players generally dont like him. He seems like a good dude so I don't understand that but he can't get anyone to come here and once there here, they want out. Beyond that, I cant remember a player ever saying anything good about him in any puff piece.

No player wants to play for a Coach that doesn’t have the clout to get them out of the minor legal problems Hugley and Horton encountered.

I don't know about this. If anyone is disliked it's probably Jason.

Why does he seem like a good dude? What does he do that makes him seem like a good dude? His bullshit slogans? He seems fake and arrogant in his public persona to me.

Champ just tweeted out a week ago or so how great a coach and guy he is.

No coach wants players who are gonna steal cars or punch cops in the face. The fact that they’re still here shows he’s standing by them.

And I’d rather have the legal process take precedence over what a coach wants. Let things go too much then what? Eventually cover up sexual assaults as as happened a few places or look the other way like they did at Penn State? I’m sure that sounds like a big leap but it all starts somewhere.

It was a joke

It comes across more than sometimes as the Coach K shtick but with about a thousand fewer wins backing it up.
Yep every press conference Reaks of do you know how lucky you are to have me? Remember that article from the athletic where he “rightly” shits on the Pete when he took over? Everything he’s done has been a misdirection from the actual on court results while acting smug that we should be so blessed to have him.

Yep I agree. We were always just supposed to trust him and for a while I did but looking back it all seems so fake and smug.

Btw, a while back you mentioned something about a rumor you heard about him when he was first hired… care to share now that this thing is a complete dumpster fire?

I think a rare post from one of the administrators on the premium board pretty much confirmed most of what I heard

I will say that no matter where this goes after the season, I do think that a lot of the back end improvements that have been made here (fan side and player side improvements at the Pete, player housing, etc.) both needed to be done, and will make the job easier for Pitt’s next coach. Sure, there’s more stuff to be done (some planned for, some harder to plan), but I think they’ve done a lot over the past four years, and I’ll give Capel and Lyke a lot of credit for that. It’s what you’d expect and hope for when you hire a coach and an AD who were at successful basketball schools. “Here’s the stuff we’ve needed to be successful at Duke and Ohio State, and we need to come as close as we can to doing that here, too.” Versus a guy like Stallings who came from a major conference school that doesn’t make any financial commitments at all, or a mid major guy who hasn’t been at a program with that stuff.

I think a lot of that back end stuff and the commitments that have been made to the program under Capel make it a job that’s tailor made for the young, hungry guy like Odom to step in and capitalize on it.

Bottom line is you gotta win no matter how good of a facility you have. I was totally wrong on capel. So excited we got him, but obviously very disappointing several years.

This is not meant to be a defense of Capel because he has to go, but it’s downright ridiculous that you can post that players generally don’t like Capel so matter of fact like it’s some absolute truth.

The transfer rate and rampant internal strife might provide some indication that there might be a kernel of truth floating in that cereal.

I don't know if they like him or not. I see no reason to believe they dislike him. Their actions at times seem to very much indicate they don't really have a lot of respect for him.

Wouldn’t it be hard to like a coach you have no respect for?

Yeah there might be some truth to it. But by the same token, one could easily look at the transfers and think a good bit of it was because the players didn’t like or couldn’t get along with each other as much as if not more than the coach.

Now blame for the above falls squarely on the coach and is a good contributing reason to can him. But that aside, there still isn’t overwhelming evidence to matter of fact say none of his players like him. May be true for some of them but we really don’t know.
