The junior college prospects. Head coaches on D1 level will take grad transfers and the one time transfers over the juco prospect in most cases because they have proven something on this level . Definitely in hoops and to a lesser example football as well. The situation in college is starting to become like free agency especially in hoops where the one and done prospects also contribute to a loss of fan interest. Free agency has ruined the pro leagues and sports and now the college gane is headed in the same direction if things arent tighten up somewhat. Hopefully the one time waiver will be just that.

Good question that i am not really sure about however even before the pandemic over the past few years the transfer portal had a similiar effect on the juco levels with grad transfers and traditional transfers.

What about the High School players trying to get a spot in college. Now, he not only has to compete against the other high schoolers but the 1000 kids on the transfer portal. Who would you take—a transfer portal player averaging 12 points a game, solid player or a 4 star high schooler, averaging 15 points per game.

Um
Good point - these kids who
Want to transfer are really hurt by players who want to transfer

think this one through

You do realize a JuCo has no choice but to transfer since they are only two year schools? JuCos primarily advertise that kids who are having academic issues or whatnot should come to their JuCo because they will then best be set up for moving to D-1 or wherever. So, the original premise is accurate and now there is a new paradigm that goes even further than just kids transferring from the four year schools.

Depends on the class of the transfer. If he's coming off his freshman year then many coaches would probably take that transfer. On the other hand, if he's coming off his junior year then just about every coach in America would take the four star high schooler over the one year transfer. And not even thing twice about it.

Also depends on whether you need help immediately or are recruiting for the future. Pitt, for instance, needs help now, so may be willing to take the more experienced player.

Right. I was just speaking in the generic sense, but if you have a team that you think is one piece away from a potential championship run and that one piece happens to be available then sure, you might go for the one year guy. But without "special circumstances" almost everyone will take the four year guy over the one year guy.
