Good article on Pitt.'s rebounding. It mentions
how Capel is stressing it more this year. The
results are very good, Champ with 16, even
Horton had six. This has not been a one
game event either.

My concern though is the Center position
and the lack of rebounding. Brown had two,
and Coulibaly had three. FIVE rebounds from
your two Centers? Collier got a few minutes
and had two, but he IMO is a liability on the
floor at this time.....hopefully he improves.
Hugley's loss really hurts us at this point. He
at least was averaging 4.3 rebounds per game.
Coulibaly is 3.8 and Brown is 2.3. Those #'s
are the same as what they did against 'Cuse.
Champ is playing out of his mind, but to
expect 20, 20, 16 rebonds game after game
is asking a lot. Other teams are going to
focus on him more. When they do, our two
centers need to step it up.

Focus more on Champagnie means, or should mean more double teams. This should open up things for whomever's man is left openby the double team. Properly addressed this advantage can be exploited effectively.

Liked this quote from Ithiel Horton in particular:
“Our rebounding is the underlying tone for this year’s team,” Horton said. “This year, coach is really hammering home boxing out, boxing out at practice every day.”

Boxing out is such a critical fundamental when it come to defensive rebounding. Guys really need to pay attention to getting their body in front of the opposing player. Make them go around or over the back. Not ball watch. Sound like they’re paying attention to the HC’s exhortations. Now they need to keep it up.

Since this is on the football board, does anyone else think Justin Champagnie could make an outstanding WR?

Here’s an even better question: maybe someone on the staff with the ability to do so can move this to the Basketball Board?
But, I have thought that for some time. Troutman got his shot in a camp; I’d love to see Champagnie play on Saturdays to see what he could do. What a red zone target.

He’s already had 3 knee injuries. 1 in HS and 2 at Pitt. So I’d imagine football isn’t in his plans.
