I would prefer that LSU offers big time and Pitt responds with less, and Canada stays at Pitt, it would really boost Coach Pat & Staff and Canada staying, but preference is not reality, up to Pitt to rebuild its Football Program as led by Gallagher, Narduzzi and Barnes.

“We're going to do what we can do to make sure Matt stays here for a while,” Narduzzi said. “With the chancellor (Patrick Gallagher) and (athletic director) Scott Barnes, I feel really good about that.”

Barnes reiterated that stance recently when he told Pitt's flagship station, 93.7 FM, that contract extension talks with Canada already had begun.

Matt Canada can do what he wants but i don't see Ed Orgeron lasting long at LSU either, I see him as another Foge Fazio & Mike Munchak, Great Coordinator not a Head Coach. LSU is known for not keeping Coaches anyway. Wish Matt the best if he leaves and thank him for an exciting year.Coach PN will find another OC!

Ole Miss

Upon arriving at Ole Miss , Orgeron attempted to bring USC's passing game coordinator, Lane Kiffin, with him as the new offensive coordinator, but Kiffin opted to stay with the Trojans.[10]

Entering the 2005 season, Orgeron had hoped to bring a USC-style offense to the Southeastern Conference (SEC), but found limited success. The University of Mississippi's offense finished the season ranked 111th out of 117 Division I-A schools, in total offense; 115th in scoring; and, 116th in rushing. Orgeron's defensive experience, along with returning linebacker Patrick Willis, helped the Rebel defense in 2005, but as a result of the offensive woes, the 2005 team struggled and finished the season with a record of three wins and eight losses—the Rebels' worst record since 1987.

In response to the results of his first season, Orgeron fired offensive coordinator Noel Mazzone,[11] replacing him with former University of Miami offensive coordinator Dan Werner.[12] Also, Orgeron hired Art Kehoe, the longtime offensive line coach at the University of Miami; both assistants had just been fired by the University of Miami. In 2006, Ole' Miss finished the season ranked #108 in scoring offense, #111 in total offense, and #112 in passing offense.[13]

Orgeron's second recruiting class in February 2006 was successful, acquiring the written pledges of a national Top 15 signing class.[14] He followed that with the 32nd ranked recruiting class in February 2007.[15]

At Ole Miss, Orgeron recorded only two wins against teams with winning records (the 2005 and 2007 Memphis teams, which both finished at 7-5)—the fewest among active SEC coaches at the time. Until the 2007 season, he enjoyed the public support of The University of Mississippi's chancellor Robert Khayat and other administrators with oversight of the football program, including Athletic Director Pete Boone. In a November 2006 article in The Clarion-Ledger, Khayat said of Orgeron and the poor win/loss record since he was hired (7–14, at the time of the interview), "I think Coach Orgeron inherited a very difficult situation....I am 100 percent behind him, and I think that people ought to understand that he has a big challenge."

In 2007, Ole' Miss finished the season 0–8 against fellow SEC teams, and 3–9 overall. It was the program's first winless (conference) season since 1982.

On November 24, 2007, after Ole Miss blew a 14-point fourth-quarter lead to in-state rival Mississippi State in the season finale, Orgeron was fired. He was replaced by former University of Arkansas head coach Houston Nutt (who had resigned from the Arkansas program three days after Orgeron's firing).

Read on another site that LSU will offer over a million and even triple his current salary
Price of poker going way up.

Good for MATT but I am telling you now, Ed Orgeron was a Great Interim Coach at USC & LSU, but the fellow won't cut is as a Head Coach at LSU, wait, watch and see?

Bama's Saban should consider Matt and that is where Matt can learn from the one of the Best CFB in History.

No way should Pitt match a raise of triple his salary. If Canada doesn't recruit what would be the point of paying him more than $1 million?? I agree that Orgeron has 2 years tops to beat Bama and I don't see that happening. If Saban hasn't reached out to Canada by now that should tell LSU something. His offense will be much more difficult to run in the SEC.

It is not just that, Orgeron wants the SPREAD OFFENSE, Canada is more of a Les Miles Offense. Canada also has had clashes at times and talks about with other naming names of Head Coaches. Orgeron has done the same and fires OC's & DC's without notice and can be bull headed?

i don't see this as a match whatsoever, but if money is the golden rule, then they set the rules.

And I see where kiffin is making 1.2 at FAU???

It's baseball free agency in CFB coaching circles

its a MONSTER business. money is there and coaches are getting paid. Tubberville was getting paid as well, its not a new thing at Cinci.

Pitt admin will need to ante up to remain competitive.

Non P5 Cincy is paying their new head coach 2.5M/yr. I should have gone into coaching......

Cameron made 1.2M this season so if LSU throws 1.3M at MC he would be set for a long time if he lasted 3 seasons there. PITT has the money but it would be unlikely we would pay an OC this much. Plenty of talented young offensive minds to bring in if he does leave.
You can bet many coaches are looking at PITT tape from this season to plagiarize.

LSU's AD office is a mess, they'll throw a lotta $$$ at a problem though. Basically Canada takes it for a big payday and potential big buy out.
-if he wants to be a HC, stay at Pitt, have another big year, and leverage that for a HC spot.
-while $ is important...it isn't everything. Canada being fired from NC State moving family and all that (which he's talked about being hard) and then Duzz hiring him and giving him a place to feel comfortable without meddling... it means something.

Just like Kiffin... sometimes u do what's the best career builder, not what pays the most.

Of Orgeron blows it at LSU like he has everywhere else that he's been a HC... Canada would be associated with that failure, rather than record setting offense with a high respected coach...

Not counting MC's days as a GA, he has been coaching for 20 years. How much cash do you think he's made already? The answer.....he's already made plenty of cash.

If LSU struggles the next 2 years, then that is not going to help Canada's aspirations of becoming a HC.

In my opinion -- pure opinion -- Canada will be head coach 2 years from now. If he's successful at LSU (or Pitt if he stays at Pitt), then that head coaching job will be a bigger school. If he's not as successful, then that head coaching job will be a smaller school.
