Tyler Boyd signs 4 year - $43 million extension with the bengals. I just don't get it, if you are a high school prospect and go to Pitt, you will get paid. Fitz, Donald, Boyd, Revis, do i need to keep going? This should help recruiting even more.

Congrats to Tyler though. He is continuing to etch his name into WPA football lore and he is only going to get better. HAIL TO PITT!

PITT donor accounting should get ready to book a big donor acct recievable after they send Tyler a Don't Forget PITT reminder letter including a suggested minimum donation.
Don't be shy PITT.

Congrats to TB.
I enjoyed watching him at PITT.

That's higher per year than all but 5 Steelers.
TB is a good receiver but teams like the Bengals who haven't won a playoff game in decades overpay to keep talent.
Congats TB.

He will never give to Pitt. Always seemed kind of a selfish "Me" player. Not a team guy wanting the program and university to grow. Hope he proves me wrong.

Really? Why would you think that?

I think he could have easily been disgruntled with how he was used in his last year at pitt. But he never voiced any frustration. Didn’t seem like a head case at all, acted normal on the field.

I have no clue if he loves pitt or not, just seems like an unfair comment.

It really should help, especially with locals. Hard not to conclude that it seems to have little impact, though. In fact it seems to have less impact than ever.

I honestly don't get that. Let's not be naive, for most coveted recruits, the whole enchilada for picking a program is to get a great shot to play early, to be given a solid opportunity to star, to get NFL notice, to get into the league, produce, and cash in. And Pitt has shown quite a knack for providing a great platform to guys to do just that. We ain't gonna get 5 stars and I totally understand that, but more of the tier below that should be more into us than they are. It seems not to matter much though.

I respect several here who claim payola doesn't exist. If truly not, then all I can attribute is, the bad rep (especially local) for the Pitt program for 40 odd years simply seems to trump the several examples of real, lucrative success for those like Boyd, Shady, Revis, Whitehead etc who could see past the negativity. But i think many of these guys do themselves a disservice, I really do. This is why nobody should be glad that Foster got into the league (and surprisingly even the Bills count!) Despite getting lost in the shuffle among the sea of 5 stars at Bama. Even so, a level headed recruit should see Boyd and his sweet deal vs Foster just kinda clinging to a job. Or lineman that might go to Michigan and never heard of again vs a Donald who basically wins the Heisman here ... and so forth

My guess is this is 100% incorrect. My connect has always spoken highly of the kid. Besides making a few immature decisions with friends from HS, he seems to be a down to earth guy, much like Aaron Donald. A few years back, he was working out in the summer at LA Fitness by Century 3 Mall. My buddy works out there and said he would talk to him there and said you never would have known he was an NFL guy. Also, I have heard he bought a house for his mom in Elizabeth and lives there in the off-season. A step-up from Clairton, sure, but NFL millionaires usually dont reside in Elizabeth, PA. Lastly, I heard he was in a local BMW dealer recently (maybe it was another luxury car dealer) questioning a mistake on his bill. Turns out he was right and was overcharged for something. How many 25 year old NFL millionaires even bother about a few hundred bucks?

They're paying him #1 WR money because he played like one when AJ Green was out and they have a lot of cap space. AJ Green will want big money after this season so I suspect that means the Bengals let him walk. You can debate the merits of that choice but I'm guessing that's what they're thinking.

Does anyone have a breakdown of how much is guaranteed?

Next thing you know, the USWNT will demand to be paid just as much......you know.....because Tyler Boyd plays for the USMNT.......nevermind. For the right audience, that's a heck of a joke.

First, his success in the NFL isn't because of Pitt. If Boyd went to WVU or PSU or OSU he would still be getting paid.

Second, most athletes don't give a lot of money back to their Alma mater. They view their time playing in college as a period where they were taken advantage of for no pay while helping to bring in millions of revenue for the school/NCAA. They aren't wrong.

wpial player stayed at home, went to pitt, had success, got drafted and is now making 8 figure annual salary. this is good news for pitt.

I wish he'd be more of a presence in south side, with the program, do the AD thing but he seems like a more quiet, reserved guy. but yes, this is great news for him and should help pitt. at the very least, he's a known name with wpial high school kids and they know he went to pitt..

I think he has been working out on the SS this summer.

Excellent point. AJ is getting a little long in the tooth and I think Tyler is ready to take on the responsibility. This is of course considering they have or will draft a solid replacement for WR2.

The Cincinnati Bengals locked down a rising young receiver ahead of training camp.

Wideout Tyler Boyd agreed to terms on a four-year contract extension worth $43 million, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported Tuesday, per a source informed of the deal.

The former second-round pick had been slated to enter the final year of his rookie contract, set to earn just over $1.03 million. The 24-year-old will now make over $11.3 million in Year 1, per Pelissero. The extension keeps Boyd under contract in Cincy through the 2023 season.

"He doesn't scare. He's a difference-maker,"Bengals owner Mike Brown said of Boyd Tuesday, via Geoff Hobson of the team's official website.

The big payday comes after Boyd enjoyed a breakout 2018 campaign in which he generated 76 catches, 1,028 yards and seven touchdowns. WithA.J. Green injured down the stretch last season, Boyd proved he could be a difference-making go-to target as the focal point of the pass-game. The wideout generated five games of 90-plus yards last season and was particularly efficient earning first downs, especially on money-downs (third or fourth down). Last year, 58.1 percent of his money-down targets went for a first down or touchdown, which ranked eighth in the NFL, per Pro Football Focus.

Boyd said during the spring that his goal was to remain in Cincinnati. The wideout hinted at the time he was looking for a contract similar to the one Sterling Shepard signed with the New York Giants earlier in the offseason (four-year, $41 million contract with $21.3 million guaranteed). Boyd got his deal beforeBengals training camp kicks off Friday.

With Boyd's contract in the books, the Bengals will now turn their attention to star receiver A.J. Green who enters the final year of his deal.

I don’t believe a car dealer over charged. False story. :)

maybe he really likes Riverview golf course. also a 3H farm there that is nice for the kids around Halloween.

OK, that's all the Elizabeth knowledge i have.

A very odd post. But I guess we should always post what “seems” to us. Especially when it is needlessly impugning someone’s character.

Now this the worst post of the thread.

Well almost the worst post!

This is how you feel.

I doubt many players think that way!

How do you know he would be getting paid this well at this point in his career if he went to another school? Foster went to Bama, and is nowhere close to making the same amount of money as Boyd. Tyler Boyd clearly made the right choice by attending Pitt.

Why didn't he pick PSU, OSU or WVU.

He choose PITT because he felt that was the place where he had the best chance to succeed, play as early as possible, build up big numbers, and move to the NFL quickly.

Many players of his caliber had to wait to play until they were Jrs or Srs and some probably never got on the field depending how stacked their position was at one of the football factories ( PITT isn't one of those).

Tyler went to the NFL early others had to wait until they were seniors or 5th yr grad students forgoing two or more years of NFL pay.

Many players in the NFL picked PITT because it provided them the opportunity to get on the field early, play in a good conference, get visibility, with good coaching!

Your post reflects your thoughts!
I doubt many players resent Alabama or Clemson or any other U because they didn't get paid.
Oh wait they did get paid free college and a boost to the NFL where they're no making millions!

There may be a few who didn't make it in the NFL and are now bitter but that's a small percent.

I almost spit out my coffee when i read this. No, he wouldn't have succeeded at those schools because they are where 4-5 stars WRs go to suck. When was the last time a PSU or WVU WR actually got paid in the league? I cant even think of a WR that actually contributes from either school in the NFL right now.

Boyd is better than Foster. That's why he is getting a big contract.

All the more reason Boyd would have started and shined at those schools. Let's take the Pitt colored glasses off for a second. Boyd goes to WVU he probably has even better numbers, considering their offensive production. This is not a knock on Pitt. Just that a good players can succeed at many places.

My post is accurate. How many players give anything more than a token donation? It's got to be around 5-10%. Many of these guys have their own charities, focusing on causes they believe in. Not everyone is AD or Fitz.

Which WR’s in the NFL that attended WVU are making as much or more than Boyd or Fitzgerald? The NFL prefers guys that come from a pro style offense. They could care less about college stats that were fluctuated.

Best Boyd catch at Pitt?

Anyone recall the end of the first half against (was it new mexico I think his freshmen year) where the ball was chucked into the endzone from the 50 as about time was running out. Tyler was at the back of the endzone and reached over the DB and tiptoed on the back line to grab the TD.

Some of the details might be in error but do any of you remember that catch?

Boyd and Fitz are better than their WRs. The pro style offense as a means to get into the NFL is overrated. If you are an NFL talent wand work at it, you are going to do well regardless of the program you came from.

There are guys that played for WVU that were ranked just as high or higher than Boyd or Fitzgerald? Foster was ranked higher and has more pure talent than Boyd. Why aren’t they making as much?

At PSU or WVU, yes....well old PSU. Now they recruit like Ohio State but when a star like Boyd goes to a blue blood like an Alabama, they dont play for a few years. For some kids, this makes them work harder and get better. For others, they get frustrated and disenfranchised and slack off causing them to never reach their full potential. If your goal is to make the NFL, you have to go somewhere where you are going to play early because if you cant get on the field in Year 1 and Year 2, guess what, there's more big guns coming when you are in Years 3, 4, and 5.
