UNC RB - Hampton

He was a 2nd team all American last year according to some sites. So yes, he is good.

What I’ve taken from this game so far is the quarterback play on both sides is not very good.

Malik Murphy from Duke, a portal transfer from Texas, has been awful. Pitt looked at him as a potential transfer. But I would have to say that getting Eli was a much better outcome.

Next week will be a big challenge for Pitt at Chapel Hill. Pitt will have to score points against the Tar Heels defense. Then do their best to keep Hampton and the UNC offense in check.

Early scores and early stops.
Make UNC have to give up on the run a little, and the game can quickly snowball.

If UNC is able to keep running the entire game, which is what they want to do, then it can be a close game.

Hopefully, the coaches spent this off week working on some basic tackling skills. I'd like to see us perform a lot better in that aspect than we have been.

Unfortunately, I think Chief Borders got his name after being blocked through 25 different countries before landing in the US.

Not saying I'm right, but I would have went for that. If a field goal could only tie it, fine. But one big play (maybe a lot to ask from this offense; I get it) and you lose now.

Pitt perennially stops the run. They’ll do it again next week.

We were 86th in rushing defense last year, and are 47th this year with half of our opponents being teams that would have trouble winning games in the WPIAL.

We can hope that we will stop the run next week, but I'm not so sure we should expect it.

We won't. Rush defense isnt good. Hampton is going to go off. Will need to score 35+.

I think a UNC win requires them to run the ball and get some turnovers which is entirely possible. If this game was at home, I think Pitt wins by double digits.

Yep. UNC is going to need a lot of things that you can’t really project, for them to win.

Turnovers
muffed punts
Etc

The talent levels for UNC and Pitt are fairly equal. I would say we are a 1 or 2 point favorite. If we dont play well, we can lose.

I'm sure they have more talent overall, because we don't have much. But we do have better coaching and a better QB, so we might win on a weighted average basis.

We are more talented than we thought. The QB and WRs are legit. LB's are playing way better than anyone thought. Our issues are on the DL and OL, and those aren't places you want to be weak.

They gave up 70 points to James Madison.
Right. They also won at Minnesota. Minnesota lost by just 3 at current #10 Michigan yesterday.

UNC has talent. This will be a tough game for Pitt. A big test on the road.

Statistics can be twisted all kinds of ways. All that matters is how the 2 teams play and what happens on the field this coming Saturday.

Looking forward to it.

LBs are what many of us thought they would be.

WRs playing well above, but it's crazy to act like none of it is attributable to having an OC who schemes them open for a change.

Look at the draft watch lists: they have more guys on it. It's only 2025, but with where they recruit vs where we recruit it's probably even more drastic if you include subsequent years. Like I said, though, we are certainly better at QB and on the sidelines, which matters quite a bit. Hence, why we lost to teams last season we had more talent than; our QB situation was the antithesis of this.

I'm not suggesting we have no talent, but I am saying that UNC is typically one of the more talented teams in the conference, so those teams are always dangerous because you never know when they'll put it all together for the day. We'd be foolish to underestimate them or assume this will be a win without playing a very good game.

Should have said with the exception of last year. You and I could have put up yards against last year’s team.

This year they’re getting into the backfield they just have to wrap up on tackles. If they fixed that this week they’ll be in good shape.

The line was already long-published when you posted this, but we opened as 2.5 point favorites.

OK. I dont pay attention to lines. Someone posts it on here eventually and that's how I usually find out.

People act like UNC needs some miracle to beat us. Their players are as good or better. They arent going to need 4 or 5 turnovers. If they play well and we play well, they can win.

The only time we've gotten any penetration so far this year is when we blitz. Our defensive lineman have not been good at all.

Don’t forget Tobacco Road refs

We are 0-7 there

We need to play sharp

James Madison was an aberration… wasn’t there 5 turnovers or something?

Let’s get it done and win the footballing game
