Well here we are last quarter of the season with Pitt standing at 6-3 record. Impressive, yeah you can say that even after two losses in a row. I'm not going to focus on the pros and cons there really isn't a need for it, Pitt just was handled by the better talented teams. Notre Dame is top 5 and a legit playoff team, last time we beat them with Savage and Street they weren't, and back in Chryst's first year that was just one those games. Nothing to really be discouraged about Pitt just doesn't have the talent right now. Watching Clemson and Florida State play each other right after Pitt and Notre Dame tells you all you need to know. I guess I can play around and ask myself what if Peterman didn't throw that interception down 14-3 just a few yards outside the redzone, could have made it a 14-10 game with a chance to stop them before halftime and get the ball first in the second half. Enough of that though, back to reality. Many drops, many blown blocking assignments, many missed tackles (since Syracuse actually) and to many mental errors. Watching LSU-Alabama last night, two highly ranked teams who both have elite talent, Gary Danielson said a comment that has been said many times by coaches, players, and anyone who understands sports: you can't make mental errors against the talent level of these of athletes. Plain and Simple.
So moving on Pitt now has Duke on the road and finish up with Louisville and Miami at home. These games aren't going to be easy of course, Duke is feeling just as discouraged right now as we are, Louisville has something to play for and still has that speed from the Charlie Strong days, and Miami is looking for a strong ending with a talented fast team also. Another 6-6 year could be in store if Pitt wants to start doubting themselves again, like they do with every other coaching staff that comes and goes threw those doors. Or Pitt can say to themselves they're 6-3 a chance to go 9-3 and win a good bowl game become 10-3 and finish ranked. Pitt needs to get that energy back that helped them earn those 6 wins thus far, nobody expected them to be 3 games over .500 heading into the second week in November. Good job now finish it, wonder if they remember those 5:30 am workouts last winter, I do and guess what this is what they were training for.
