2017 three-star defensive back Josiah Scott out of Fairfield (Ohio) has emerged as a pretty big-time target at the cornerback position for Pitt in this cycle. His performance at Pitt's camp put him pretty high up on the list of targets for the Panthers and arguably knocked Jarell White out of contention for an offer - as they worked out at the same time.
Scott will be taking a weekend visit to the University of Kentucky on Saturday for a seven-on-seven tournament with his teammates. Scott does not currently hold an offer from Kentucky, but things could change with a strong performance at the 7v7.
He had previously named a top three list of Pittsburgh, West Virginia, and Iowa, but Scott said that the list "could have another team added to make a top 4 if they offer." With a visit coming up to Kentucky to audition for an offer and that room for an extra team, it's not rocket science to guess who the 4th school may prove to be.
Scott has not yet visited Iowa among his top three, but he's working to set up a second visit of the process to WVU before the end of this month, probably next weekend (some point between July 22nd and 24th). While some have suggested that Iowa was a favorite at one point, the fact that he hasn't visited there makes it unlikely that he'll be a Hawkeye in my opinion. The WVU-UK-Pitt standing is somewhat murky in terms of the exact ordering of teams among that trio.
What is clear is that Pitt is doing very well with Scott right now after his visit. He's been talking up Pitt to some teammates of his (and Fairfield is a very strong program right now with Division I talent) and he's planning to bring at least one teammate with him to a game this fall. That's something I'll have a little more in-depth info on tomorrow, sorry to be a tease.
Scott told me that a commitment date is tentatively schedule for July 30th: "It could change, but right now [the 30th] is the date I'm planning to commit."
If he does go through with that date, it looks like a Pitt-WVU battle to me, and I would say that Pitt might have a slight edge there, but it's very, very tight. If he looks to delay things and take some more time to figure out his process, it's unclear how that Kentucky offer or a potential Iowa visit could shake things up. The next two weekends will be pivotal for Scott's recruitment and Pitt's role in said recruitment.
