Interested to see if/how he uses CCV. He was very bright on loan with Celtic this past season from what was reported. Wouldnt mind seeing Scally get a run as well to see what he can do.
I really think Turner needs to get the call. Steffen has really turned into a mediocre player this past season between shakyness and rust from being often injured. What is really going to hurt this team in Qatar is their 2 top GK's will be primary backups on their club teams.
I like the forward selections. Nice to Haji Wright back in the mix. Him and the Junkyard Dawg came up together with Schalke04 and Haji cooled but has been hot and in form according to Jason Davis.
Injuries kill this squad right now. Gimme a healthy Gio Reyna, Dest and Robinson and I'd be happy with everything else minus the GK worries

As a Celtic fan I can tell you he played well this year. Also played well in big games, scoring the winner at Rangers that basically sealed the league. Very happy to see him get a chance
No Brooks for now. Maybe if he plays well next year he'll get a look

CCV is definitely guy that has flown under the radar. I think it's primarily because he's a Spur and has been loaned out 5 times. Still young at 24 and solid height at 6'1"
I still think John Brooks can be a part of this team. It'll be interesting to see where he lands next season club wise, he's out of contract with Wolfsburg.
It has been apparent for a while that Brooks wasn’t going to be called up for this team this summer. I don’t know what has gone on behind the scenes with him and Berhalter, but there’s something we are not aware of. Every window Berhalter has come up with a different reason. If I’m a coach, I roster a vet on this team who has WC experience. But hey, that’s just me.
Well he has a bit of an opportunity. I don’t follow MLS but every time I see a highlight, I see Zimmerman getting beat. Between that and the Robinson injury, there’s opportunity. I just can’t imagine how we defend a team like England. Or God forbid we advance and play a team like France. Can anyone imagine our team playing against Mbappe and Benzema? Lol.
To be fair, I'm not sure what country is gonna be able to cover the guys on France
I don't know anything about his MLS form, but Zimmerman has received good reviews for his work with the US, even among people who aren't big MLS fans
Surprised Pepi was left off. He hasn’t been in good form of late…but he’s arguably the future of the 9 position for the USMNT.

Wright scored a goal in his last seven games, and has nine goals and two assists in his last nine.
That's the kind of form you have to ride with from a striker.
He's one of the guys that Burphalter said they didn't call in because he's been playing too much soccer and he needs a break.

Which we know is a crock. If anyone has tired legs, it’s pulisic. I know they are different players but if he’s going to use that excuse with Pepi, we see right through it.
I agree about Pulisic, but his story with Pepi is that he played all last season in MLS, then transferred in the winter and started playing right away so he hasn't had an off season since January of last year. There was another couple of players he used that excuse for as well, Sands and Busio iirc.

He very well could be using the tired legs as a reason for Pepi but also could be using it as a cover for Pepi's terrible form since his transfer.
There’s no doubt that’s what he’s doing. But would Pepi or anyone else have a beef if Berhalter said we need players in better form and Pepi hasn’t scored a goal is several months?? It’s called accountability and no one can deny Pepi hasn’t scored. You want to play, score goals. It’s simple.

It is a new era where these fragile ego's of these guys must be massaged. But in reality what does Derp have to lose? Pepi is now tied to the U.S. Regardless this team desperately need a player to take this position by the balls and run with it.
What's better? Scoring in Turkey or MLS or not scoring in the Bundesliga. Is "goal-scoring form" overrated? Pepi is playing in a much better league.
For me, I have to look at guys who are scoring. The #9 position is a delicate thing. If the player isn’t seeing his shots hit the back of the net, it does weird things to the mind. So I don’t think form is overrated. Especially when a guy hasn’t scored one goal. He has had 5 shots on goal in a calendar year. What did his club pay for? That has to be looked at by their fans as the worst transfer business the club ever did. I think they could have signed you and you’d have more than 5 shots on goal.

Maybe it’s a sporting thing rather than a cultural thing. If the Brits invented the game then I have no problem using their terminology…just as if American football took off over there and they use the terms zero, uniform and field.

My younger daughter is doing a euro dream trip right now with 3 former college teammates. She’s been in 5 fabulous countries, is in Spain now and is wrapping up in Greece.
FWIW, my niece, the one that you know of, is currently in Italy completing her masters program in her chosen field of study.
That’s great. What part ? What’s her field? It’s crazy that these young girls we watched grow up are all young ladies now and out in the real world. My older daughter completed her masters in January is Durham, England (played football there) and has been home (in my home) since. Lol. She’s in marketing and hooked on with a UPMC subsidiary for supply chain software. We are in no hurry for her to leave home, as my younger one is still away at college herself. She can work and save under our roof.

I think if you can afford to, Americans should visit as many other countries as they can, you get so isolated in the USA Super Exceptionalism or The WOKE USA Sucks bubbles and really need the perspective that it's really somewhere in between. That those places really aren't so bad and they're also not some paradise.

She is in Rome. Duquesne actually has a campus there. She is in physical therapy. My understanding (and I could have this wrong because I got it second hand) is that because of the way that covid screwed up some of their internships and whatnot that Duquesne kind of made it up to them by offering the kids (or really, young adults) in her class the chance to do their last classroom work in Italy relatively cheaply. So she gets to spend a month there, sometimes doing class work for her degree and sometimes playing the part of tourist.
