A USA Today article that came out this morning, "This Saturday, in what is believed to be a first in the history of college football, a university will hold a game-day ceremony to honor the enabler of a child rapist."

Yes, it sounds to me like everyone except Pitt fans are over this.

The author, Christine Brennan, her life will have changed when the cult tries destroy her.

And we are told PITT won't let it go. Lmao!

Nobody should or will let it go when a cultists school honors a child rape enabler

Very astute article. Putting aside the merits of the controversy, she makes a great point that the university community has shown a devastating inability to accept responsibility, show remorse, and achieve closure, largely because a very vocal portion of its alumni cannot conceive that their idol was a flawed person. Winning football games does not equate with moral virtuosity. Moreover, does it really matter whether Paterno or Schultz or Spanier sat on McQueary's report of a suspected child rape? The point is that the university had information that could have been used to stop Sandusky and did nothing with it.

This ongoing dynamic is sad and destructive, because a healthy Penn State is an important academic and economic asset to the state, regardless of who you root for on the football field.

Another person who is just making unwarranted accusations because she is "jealous and envious" of the nits football success.

This has to be all Pitt's fault.

I'm not sure why holding a ceremony to commemorate the "late, great Joe Paterno" is a surprise.

The administration needs to focus on something other than the current state of the program, which is a middling team in the Big Ten which has failed to beat its two in-state brethren in consecutive years (temple winning this weekend would seal Franklin's fate IMO). At best, they will finish 4th in the Big Ten East, after placing 4th in 2015 and 6th in 2014.

Claiming that your team is young and inexperienced only lasts so many years. Bottom line is that Franklin has failed to develop players who were highly rated coming out of HS. Those players are now, at worst, RS SO with 3 years in the program. With the exception of interior DL and OL, those players should be ready to fill significant roles in a program at that point.

Why else would "107K" come to see a team with signature wins over the likes of Rutgers, Indiana, and Army over the past couple of years; while paying their head coach north of $4M/year to do so.

What's ironic is the JoeBots believe a man that didn't do enough to stop a child predator should have kept his job... but yet they will call for the termination of any media member that speaks out against them.

Many of these oldheads conveniently forget that many of them wanted Paterno to retire years before all of this crap came out.

I'm curious about the timing of this "honor". Are they really just bat-shit crazy up there? (Probably.) Or is this some kind of weird mollifying gesture to the Joebots? A give-them-ice-cream-and-let's-hope-they-go-away thing? Either way I expect the Joe Bots to demand the return of The Statue next. Which perhaps the Admins have no intention of doing any time soon. But to honor Paterno even a smidgen will only embolden the nutjobs and reopens the wound.

The Pitt game was a perfect opportunity for Penn State to move on. New chapter in an old (un)rivalry. The first Paterno-less Pitt-State game since 1949. Franklin vs. Narduzzi. New era.... bury the past. But they cannot do it.

Franco has pledged to place a brick at the former location of the statue. No word on whether the brick will be made of cardboard.

What is sad is when we argue with these people, we tell them the same thing but coming from a Pitt fan it is all hate. I admit, I have a lot of dislike for these people but in a way I feel really sorry for them because they will never get it. Pathetic, sad, pitiful are the words I come up with when I think of them which is completely opposite of the way they think they are superior to others. The arrogance is completely and definitely unfounded.

They'll be calling her a slut or lesbian soon. Or maybe even a lesbian slut. Plus, she is a Northwestern grad who is obviously jealous of PSU's academic reputation. :)

This has already been done. As soon as the school announced these plans, that group PS4RS put out a statement calling for a return of the statue, rename the stadium "Paterno field at Beaver Stadium," and an apology to Sue.

Great article.

The kids at PsU get it. The "grown ups" don't.
Actually the "kids" don't get it either. They are saying that the affair should be forgotten because this is now their university. They are being careful not to actually demonize JoePa like he should be demonized.

Meh...at this point it should be time to move on from this. The kids are right.

I really don't care if they don't demonize him. Let it go at this point.

The issue is a sick alumni base that still idolizes him. No one should let that go.

This would all subside quickly if the nits would simply shut up about it.

It was very hush hush up until today, now it has been revealed it the Former Penn State Players that are Honoring Joe's First Game Win and it is on a Friday Event with some recognition on Saturday. A Private Event and that is OK as far as I am concern. However, the Saturday Events will be shared with THON and Joe Squeezed In-Between other Events at the Stadium. Penn State University is not paying attention to that "Old Song........."Don't Mess With Mister In-Between"!

Joe has become Mister In-Between, the Younger Students & Alumni want to move on and because they don't know him, nor care about him, and trying to overcome his Paterno Era Athletic Integrity Non-Compliance Shaming of Penn State Name that deserves no Honor!

As the Penn State Older Alumni can't forget Joe's Success of Joe's Winning his First Game leading to 409 Wins and credits it for building Penn State University even though it made Joe bigger than Penn State could control?

Another Article Ripping On Penn State & Paterno's Honors:
Penn State, Paterno vs. Temple, Cosby (column)
Sure, it doesn't seem quite right comparing the two, but you would never catch Temple having anything to do with Cosby now. Cosby is dead to Temple now. But Penn State still feels it has to honor Paterno. It's just not a good idea. How the university is handling it is even worse. The athletic department issued terse releases, not explaining anything, only saying it planned to go ahead with the commemoration, not offering any details or even paying lip service to the victims of the scandal. Coach James Franklin, asked about it at his weekly press conference, said: “That's something that is a decision that our administration makes. Again, we're so consumed with graduating our players. We're so consumed with getting our players ready to play and be successful on the football field and make great decisions in the community. That's our focus. “I think as you guys know, I was one of the first people in my opening press conference to show my respect for the history and traditions and all the wonderful things that have happened here. But after that, guys, there are a lot of things that I think people hit me up on Twitter about and questions that I get asked that I'm not involved in. Those things are for the administration." Say what you will about Franklin as a coach, but the man knows when to punt.

Suffice it to say, many know now this has been a disaster for Penn State University Public Relations & Franklin has been more Vocal about the Pitt Clap Salute then talking anything on Paterno Celebration. It also undercuts many of the Civil Lawsuits that claim Paterno's Name has been Commercially Disparagement since many Media are saying it deserves to be disparaged now that children have stated how Joe was told in 1970s, This means Joe caused some of his own Contributory Negligence by not telling anyone. It is actually helping Penn State & NCAA Positions in those Cases!

Pure Non-Subject Silence By Franklin Link:
Franklin keeps his distance from Paterno event
"My focus and our focus is on Temple and the game this week," Franklin said Tuesday. "All of those other decisions, they're for the administration. Our focus is on Temple."...Hundreds of Penn State lettermen, believed to be around 500, along with members of the Paterno family, will have their own observance honoring their former coach on Friday night at the school's baseball facility, Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. Many of the lettermen will stay around for Saturday's game.

I can respect and admire Joe Coaching of his Players and Wins and devotion just to Football & Family and others can disagree with me with no offense taken and acceptance they differing have valued opinions as well.

Still, Penn State University has put in 2012 Athletic Integrity Reforms were put in to insure no Coach or Employee would have that kind of Power Control over a University again.

If Baylor can't honor Art Briles, then Penn State should have avoided it! All Private Paterno Foundation Honoring are Private Matters and just fine, but this Test (Statue Return), Case has been rejected by every Sports Forum Media, Writer, and Website, showing it is best to leave future Honoring to Private Events forever more.

Sandy B's statement indicates that they consulted with the Paterno's about how they are going to honor Paterno. This is the same family that has a multi-million dollar lawsuit against the university. Imagine honoring the guy and consulting the family without getting them to drop the lawsuit. What a messed up place that is.

?????? The Paternos aren't actively suing Penn State at the moment.

PSU may be a "nominal defendant" in the Paternos' lawsuit against the NCAA, but that's just there for a technical lega purpose. That lawsuit is definitely meant for the NCAA.

How can anyone honor Paterno ? I happen to know some season PSU ticket holders who are not going to the Temple game because they feel unco6fortable with the whole idea.. Its so disturbing.

Ah, yes, I see that "at the moment" (operative phrase) the Paterno's aren't suing Penn State directly. That is only because a few months ago, a judge threw out Jay Paterno's ridiculous suit directly against Penn State, but left open the possibility for claims to be refiled. So, yes, "at the moment" there is only the indirect suit against the university.

The Grand Experiment was a Failure since Penn State University 2012 Reforms put in Athletic Integrity Policies under a NCAA Sanction Monitor that included 116 of 119 Recommendations Compliance, Rules, and Laws that restored Penn State University Institutional Control.

The Decades of Defensive Dominance was under Gerry Sandusky that is no longer listed as an Assistant Coach in any Penn State Programs!

Since Sandusky was a huge part of "Linebacker U", they can't even use that term anymore without shame.

In a Compromise to your description, join me in calling it.........JoePA's "PAINTING THE MICE"!

Google it, and see if you Agree?
Yes. You have been on this whole story from the start. Isn't it amazing how so many, especially the vocal Penn State leaders, dont have it in them to admit even the slightest wrong. Their entire program was built on a lie and they were only able to remain successful under this lie because they covered for JS.

I love my school and I like my football team, but I treasure my integrity and decency much more. It's not so bad to have a moral compass that points north.

Agree, and I am by no means a Penn State Haters but an advocate of all Pennsylvania Universities and regional ones too in WVU, Pitt, OSU, Temple, UCincy, Cuse and PSU to become stronger together.

Athletic Departments are a vital part of Academic Prowess and have become even more important in this day & Age of Big Money Sports and never disrespected Penn State or Paterno's vision to grow each other together.

However, how it was built on arrogance and ignorance in the name of slogans meant to belittle other Universities, Coaches, Players, and even ended Historic Series based on the whims, power, and lack of control of that University over one man, is something they have to acknowledge if they want others to respect those 409 Wins?

The excitement and respect of both Penn State & Pitt Alumni Fan Bases was just another example how wrong Joe Paterno was to end the series, and another rejection of his misjudgment and power over the University that gave him the opportunity to employ him and many members of his family still employed and other retired? It was and still is a sign of Ingratitude being the Blackest of Sins?

It also instill the hypocrisy of hatred towards others and doing it without the Athletic Integrity they claim since it required so many Trustees Costly Policies Legal & Academic Institutional Compliance 2012 Reforms under a NCAA Monitor is noble, but can't be ignored it happen and was exposed by terrible criminal scandal that ignored true children protection in the name of such insincere preaching?

Now the University bends on demand that they must somehow Honor such Success and do so mentioning a Grand Experiment of Great Defenses without listing the Defensive Coordinator responsible for those Defenses is another pretense of duplicity insincerity, and double standards, of what created such Shame to Penn State's very Name and are saying this is more important than any Reforms?

The entire Sports Media Court of Public Opinion rejected by written article, audio comments, and social values standards just to placate Former Alumni Players that somehow demand the Memorial, Idolization, Veneration, and Exaltation of one man that ignored a problem caused by another that helped him build such hypocrisy.

Until they do the Right Thing to Honor Sara Ganim, Louis Freeh, Children Advocates, and accept Victim's Voices and Lawyers that all that have been attacked, ridiculed, and harassed they can't possibly think the world will Honor one Man over what happen there?

They are in fact praising the same hypocrisy that caused them the greatest sports scandal in history, and they will come to regret it! Dead Men can't rewrite their own history and neither can a lawsuit or any private salute to an Era best left to the 2012 Reforms to prevent from happening again.

Penn State Alumnus can be very proud of what Penn State University accomplished as I advocate every day, and what they have done to make sure it never happens again.

Still, what the University did was to continue to send mixed messages, that won't stand historical scrutiny nor societal acceptance and must reject such behavior the Reforms corrected.

They just send the message they seem to care of more of Alumni Support & Exultation in rejecting Doing The Right Thing, and want praised both ways?

We shall see, but the Penn State Name will continue the Shame until move on and leave the Dead Buried, as they seek to build on a New Penn State University with 2012 Reforms, not remembrances of slogans that helped caused the scandal, this is neither Success nor Honor?

They just can't have it both ways anymore!
