Va Tech is 4 - 5 with only two games remaining, because they had their ECU game cancelled because of weather.

Are there exceptions in place with the NCAA to allow a bowl game if they don't win their last two, Miami and UVA at home? Or, are they required to have six wins, regardless?

I know there have been teams with five wins get a bowl bid when there aren't enough six win teams to fill all the slots, but that's not what I'm asking.

Does anyone know?

I'm expecting Va Tech to announce a game the weekend of the ACC Championship now that the Hokies have been officially eliminated from the Coastal division.

Interestingly, NC State has opted to play ECU on December 1. Remember FSU rescheduled a game late last year when they needed a 6th win. I don't believe there are any special rules for a 5-6 team. Perhaps they would get special selection over a 5-7 team?

But, with whom? Is there another team that would play 13 games?

NCSU v WVU was cancelled. NCSU replaced WVU with ECU. In this mix of VPI, NCSU, ECU and WVU, WVU would be the only other team with 11 games, but they have their bowl eligibility ticked punched (several times), so I don't expect them to want to play another game.

They could play ECU because they won't be playing in their conference championship, either. They play so often that they probably don't want to piss them off, but it would be interesting if ECU power played them to make VT come to their place in exchange for giving them their shot at a bowl.

Do they travel well for bowls and get good ratings? If so, look for an exception to be made. There are a lot of bowls out there.

They are going to play Southern Mississippi.

They traveled well to Pittsburgh. I would assume, if possible, that an exception would be made. They always are given the benefit of the doubt in the preseason rankings and that carries over into the season and ESPN loves them.

WVU will also probably already be playing in the Big 12 championship game.
