i just wanted to make a point. A lot are saying it's so hard to recruit to vandy because of academic standards. Yes, the academics are tough but we're talking about 13 student athletes. This isn't 85 football players. You only start 5 and you're not competing for blue chips like Kentucky or UNC at either Pitt OR Vandy. Neither place is in a basketball hot bed by any means. The competition for east coast players is tougher than in the South due to the larger number of quality basketball programs. Both programs are in urban markets. Neither school has a long history of success. Pitt's biggest success was in a different conference that played in different markets than the one they are in now meaning it really has to learn who they are all over again. Vandy's identity is established.
They're really not that much different. Yale has a more recent NCAA tourney win than either school. This academics makes the job harder holds weight in large team sports like football, but all it takes is one or two quality basketball players to become real good.
