Looking forward to seeing this....Pitt has to keep pace with Nebraska who beat #16 Minnesota last night. A few interesting things about FS...
  • They have lost 6 matches this season and took Louisville to 5 sets before losing
  • They have only been swept once....by Virginia...who Pitt destroyed 2 weeks ago
  • They have lost 27 sets....30% of the sets they have played
  • Their stat sheet is respectable....17.6 points scored/set (Pitt is 18.9). Points given back due to errors is 7.7 (Pitt 6.4)
  • Their two stars are MB Khori Louis (hits .413%) and OH Audrey Koenig (3.74 kills/set)
  • Pitt has swept 20 opponents this season and only lost 7 sets total all season.

I've watched FSU several times this year. Audrey has taken over matches this season for FSU, including this recent one:

HOF, can u give me a site of any medium I can follow the the match? Thanks.

We are in Winter Park to watch granddaughter’s final home VB games at Rollins College.

Our entire family follows Pitt VB from Chattanooga!

Sorry...just saw your request.

Th NCAA site has Pitt with a 7:00 pm start, so they haven't been posting the play-by-play action like they usually do.

Is it me, or is Olivia continuing to get better throughout the season. At this pace, she is a shoe in for AVCA player of the year. Though I told my son, she isn't the best player for Pitt. That goes to Rachel.
I agree about Rachel. Her sets allow others to shine brightly.

However, Liv and Torrey are very special too.

I agree. Rachel is the best player for Pitt. Babcock is the star. But man…Gomez has been so, so good this year. Especially on the back row, and such a steady serve. When you have her and Stafford in your 2nd wave of stars it’s elite team.

Gomez and Stafford would be the best players on many top 25 teams.

Listening to the postgame comments from Fish....he remarked it is very unusual for a coach to say at this point in the season which is coming to an end....that 'it's pretty rare for a team in November and December to be getting better but it's happening and that's what we're trying to be'. In the last 5 matches....Pitt is overwhelming the opposition by scores on average of about 25 - 15 every set. Florida State can now be added to a very long list of teams.....when asked "who was the toughest team you faced this year" with the answer "it was Pitt"! Miami is next on Sunday....1 PM at the Fitz.

I don't quite like saying this but these post game interviews reveal or make me feel that Pitt is overly impressed with themselves

maybe it's how Fish thinks he needs to get to the top of the mountain but I don't think so and I would dial it back a bit

when they hit adversity in the Final 4, and they WILL, I am not sure their heads are where they need to be

or I should just STFU because I have no idea sitting here typing on my MAC and should just continue to enjoy the ride while letting the great head coach handle the talent :)

I don’t see this. I’ve seen a lot of these where Fish has nit-picked their performance after dominant wins. The coaches and players hold themselves to high standards and also focus a lot on the mental game. They’ve been tested twice this year and are 1-1. And most of these players have been tested and excelled before. Anything is possible in the tournament but I am confident they will be ready.

Yeah, I can't say what I "sense" with too much confidence but having watched quite a bit from the last few years, the current year videos(not all but some) seem different and it's the players I observe being different and my thought is that's in some part due to Fish supporting more so putting them in the "hunted" status category rather than hunter as has always been the reality.

Have you seen as much of the nit-picking this year as prior? That IS what I think had changed a bit and then at times the players appear extra confident. Extra is great, over would be not so.... . VB is such a momentum and head game on top of the physical performance and athleticism that I just want Pitt to have every edge here over the next few weeks.

Just throwing it out there, new to this board and appreciate thoughts of others

I don’t necessarily think you are wrong. But at the end of the day, I don’t think there is anything wrong with being confident and thinking you are the best team in the country, as long as it doesn’t impact your level of focus and preparation. And for whatever was said in the post-game presser, they sure were prepared and focused for that game.

The point that you make, Fish has installed the mentality that Pitt is now the "hunted" and are no longer the "hunters" is exactly why the team appears to be so confident this season. Fish also has a sports psychologist working with the team to help sharpen their "mental" game, in hopes of resulting with the belief that they are worthy and the extreme confidence that we are seeing.

The reality is that according to the statistics, this season Pitt has:
--#1 RS Hitter (Liv)
--#1 Opposite Hitter (Torrey)
--#1 Setter (Rachel)
These 3 are all on the 14 Semifinalist list for "Player of the Year"
--2 of the Top 5 MBs (Bre & Ryla)

Additionally:
--A Libero, who Fish has called one of the best in the country (Emmy)
--A sixth year "Swiss Army Knife" (VVG), who came back this year to win a national championship
--2 experienced and battle-tested serve specialists (Cat & Dillyn)
--An assistant coach who is currently recognized as the top assistant in the country (Kellen)

The goal for this season was set last summer, a national championship.

What you are seeing is a reflection of their belief that they can do it.

good stuff and I 100% think the sports psych stuff can help, some times you don't understand how really good you can be when you are already great :)

Fish calling Emmy "one of...." is coach talk and I don't quite see that, do stats back that up? I watch a fair amount of WVB but not enough to know but off the top would say Nebraska and Louisville appeared stronger all around and other lesser teams looked just as solid or better at that position

not sure how or why your other Additionaly's apply other than clearly this is a great team, not justifying what might be over confidence

how'd you think the Louisville match looked?

for me Wednesday, November 27 will tell

I mean. Pitt has only lost one match and only dropped a handful of sets all year. They’ve been #1 for like two months now. It would be disingenuous and fake for them to come out and be overly humble.

I hear you

not asking for overly humble, that WOULD be BS
RightSaidTed had it perfect with this: "But at the end of the day, I don’t think there is anything wrong with being confident and thinking you are the best team in the country, as long as it doesn’t impact your level of focus and preparation."

I'm guessing it DOES impact focus and prep, while I definitely should and do trust Fish to know everything far better

There’s this. I haven’t seen any advanced metrics on digs; not sure there are any. Pitt’s overall team defense numbers also are excellent, and she is of course a big part of that.

I'll say this, our receive of serve looked far better to start this year than any time I've seen in the last 2-3 years

but at this point it seems less amazing, maybe competition with better serving, maybe expectations, maybe my far less than precise judgement :( and the dinks hitting the floor against us seems to happen more than to other teams...... maybe THAT stands out too much in my head too
