VB: "Cali treated us well"

1982 football ?
Correct....on November 26, 1982....the day after Thanksgiving when the Pitt - Penn State rivalry was going strong. Pitt was #5....Penn State #2. Penn State won 19-10. I've always viewed that season as the turning point of Pitt's decline as a national power in football. It was Foge Fazio's 1st year as head coach and Dan Marino's last year at Pitt. Pitt was preseason #1 but lost 3 of their last 4 games including a 7-6 loss to SMU in the Cotton Bowl. I remember thinking.....maybe hiring Foge as HC wasn't such a good idea. You know the rest.

Wednesday's volleyball game is a really big deal. The Penn State pedigree in volleyball is only rivaled by Stanford. I think PSU has 8 national championships in volleyball. Nationally....although we are recognized as a fine program.....a win Wednesday moves us closer to truly elite status. Forty plus years ago that's exactly what Pitt football was. As Dan Fisher says....'the ACC needs a volleyball national championship and it can be us'.
