VB: Pitt scrimmage on national TV!

Looks like that was planned by the Big network. Happy to be able to see it!

You’ll see Cat Flood in uniform. It is not unusual to permit former players to participate in exhibition matches to fill out the roster. I believe that’s why she’s in uniform.
I dont see Dylan Griffin either . Bayless and Gregoire seem to be struggling in serve receive

That was fun. I’m excited considering this is a retooled squad and they will get better. The 5th set comeback was a gut check and Pitt prevailed…… looking forward to seeing the ladies this weekend at the Fitz.
Always fun to stick it to Penn St.

Thought they got better through out the match. Ha’ti , Gregoire , Dupes became much more comfortable as the match wore on.

Thought Bayless was very good ; but suspect in serve receive.

Gregoire was effective too - was happy to see she looks like she can contribute immediately.

Babcock took it to another level in rhe 5th set- completely dominant with some powerful kills- I mean straight down with serious heat.

Noticed Babcock showed a new serve - less of a power jump serve - was much more accurate.

Obviously a lot of work to do - service receive was spotty all match . we need players - just 4 on the bench and 2 of them are not actually on the team ! Getting Mosher will really help and hopefully Dinn and Griffin can contribute. Feel like we need at least 2 more transfers - an OH for sure- to have normal depth.

Also - we had 3 players playing for the first time after injuries last season- Hai’ti in particular hasn’t played in over a year and Gregoire missed most of last season. Dupes also played hurt last year—

Fisher always seems to land a quality player in the Spring portal - expect the same this season .

That was a hell of a comeback in the 5th.

And the broadcast was nauseating. Great to see Pitt stick it to them.
Nauseating doesn’t seem to do that broadcast justice.

That being said Pitt spent a lot of time out of system. Time will tell but there’s definitely room for improvement (for both Pitt and PSU)

By the 2nd set my wife asked me to put the tv on mute to just watch the match and not listen to the announcers!

Here is a comprehensive story about the match written by Dominic Campbell for si.com :

Someone actually replied to say it was just a scrimmage and Penn State won when it counted. They really can't give anything a break.

I didn't get to watch because I was driving back and forth from volleyball practice and the service isn't great where we were. Hopefully can stream it later. It's really tough to take much away from these scrimmages (the long service runs mentioned sort of let you know that) but there is enough in this article to leave you feeling pretty good. Especially Bre Kelly having a good game and Dupes playing well. I also get the sense that Olivia will just get harder and harder for other teams to deal with.

That’s funny about the reply- they don’t care about Pitt . I noticed at least one expletive on Pitt shirt in the crowd.

One nugget in the SI article - Penn State will host Pitt in the regular season. That should be fun.

Wasn’t it known last year that Pitt-PSU was a home and home series, with the first game at Pitt last year?

For reference....there is a 30 page thread on volleytalk regarding last night's exhibition match and I swear almost half of of it was negative comments about the announcers!

If Pitt's setters (Tautua'a and Mosher) settle in and perfect their game to create the needed synchrony with the hitters this will be an exciting season. I'll be looking to see if there is improvement in that regard this weekend. I swear Babcock could have had 30 kills last night if the setting and passing improves. I am confident it will......looking forward to seeing what Mosher brings to the table
