Very early Bracketology

Yeah, 9 ACC teams in and we were not one of them.... not even on the bubble.

No respect!

None at ALL!

Sounds about right to me.

This program is trending the wrong way. I dont think they are a tournament team, either.

For me they are on the Bubble.
Hopefully Damon Wilson will be Eligible to play. Could use him as we have a lot of guards with injuries and he is supposed to be talented...

Yeah
This year Pitt cannot afford to lose to the bottom teams at home (WF, VT, GT, etc...) and needs to beat some good teams too. Can't afford to lose to any mid majors in the non-conference schedule either (especially the ones below 120 in RPI. If we went 2-1 against Gonzaga, Purdue, Davidson and beat Gonzaga that would be really good for our RPI for sure.

count me in as one who things we're going to be much better than many think. We have big bodies at the 5, Young back at his 4 spot, Artis although not great defensively will be at the 3 along with Jeter. Senior PG and Newkirk back and I think Cam Johnson is going to give us some outside shooting. While It's not going to be a vintage team, personally I think it's an NCAA team. It's not like Jamie forgot how to coach. Now, if they go 2 and 16 in the league I'll start to worry but I think Pitt is a sleeper.

I think this team may completely surprise everybody and go like 12-6 in the ACC and finish 4th or 5th. After UNC, Duke, and UVa, there's a big drop-off. #4-#11 could be anybody. I think the team is vastly improved over last year. Adding Centers is a big deal.

Well, Young at PF and Artis at SF, is the BIG question mark going into the season. I agree that SOMETHING has to be done but you are moving your top two scorers to positions where they have not excelled at in the past.

Dixon made the right moves over the summer in bringing in Smith, Maia and ANO.... so now we get to see how well he puts these players together as a team.

From last year's team, we only lost Wright (dubious loss) who was a player of any significance, with Smith replacing him. Then, Maia and ANO replace Randall and Uchebo and that should be a big step up. Cam Johnson will be back and hopefully Wilson is eligible. Add to this the fact that everyone else SHOULD be better given the extra year of experience... and we SHOULD be an NCAA team... and hopefully a sweet 16 team.

Yeah, and if we can just play some D this year we should be much better just with that.

I'm surprised anyone would would think we'd even be a bubble team. And I just don't see any help for the future, either.

If you are surprised that ANYONE could POSSIBLY think we are a tournament team, despite being NIT last year and returning almost every important player, upgrading the 5 with transfers and adding another 3-point shooting guard transfer, then I don't know what to say besides you should refill your Prozac.

So the early bracketologist should refill his prozac too? Come on. Many will have us OUT, and for great reason. And we have no idea whether the 5 is upgraded or whether the transfer will do anything.

You're right. When has a bracket 7 months before the tournament and 3 months before a single college basketball game has been played ever been wrong?

I still think we make the tourney also. I'd say something like 21-10 in regular season.

If we made a half decent run in the NIT last year and/or did not flame out in the last few weeks of the regular season, we are probably on the bubble or among the last 5 in. We have enough intriguing players to be considered interesting, but boy did we flame out bigtime late last season.

Agreed - he crapped out on his prep recruiting, but did what he had to with Smith, Maia and Ano.

IF those guys are players, with Young and Artis and to a lesser extent Jones going into their junior years when you could expect to see a transition to them being able to win games, JRob as a senior ... There is enough there for JD to make a top 5 ACC run.

Top 5 in ACC might be pushing it a little.
(Maybe top 8 if lucky.)
Definitely not happening (top 5 in ACC) if 4 star Wilson isn't eligible, IMHO....just ain't happening.

The goal for the ACC should be to... WIN IT ALL.... regular season AND ACCT!

If Dixon and our players get their butts into gear.... just might happen.

The pirates are going to super bowl or is it the Stanley Cup finals in 18. If JD can get his team to beat ND,UNC & Syracuse twice with the roster he had last year Pitt will be better this year assuming they'll have any guards . Who cares what anyone thinks now

"Death of Dixon...Volume II...Chapter 6
Chapter 7 ..... The Great Comeback ...."

Hopefully he'll turn this ship around sometime soon... Could be this year but would help (towards turning team around) if he recruited better talent...

Well when you lose 6 players from a team that went 19-11 with a weak schedule, finished the season on a 5-game losing streak, and get bounced in the first round of the NIT, you won't get any respect.

Which of those players players had a positive impact on last year's team? I count Cam Wright, but plenty on here hated him. Josh Newkirk is the only other player you might be able to make a case for, but let's be real, he hurt us way more than he helped us down the stretch. No one is lamenting the loss of Uchebo, Randall, Nwankwo, or especially Haughton (who I'm not even sure actually exists). Ododa and Maia figure to be better than that motley crew. Sterling Smith hopefully gives us another 3 point shooter. And all of our best players return.

It's not unreasonable to think we'll be a better team this year.

I think they will be better on the defensive end and on the boards. The loss of Newkirk is really an unknown - given a season where he was subpar not many people had a good feeling about him going into this year. The news regarding Wilson's classes at OSNA not being cleared yet is also a bit nerve wracking at a position lacks quality depth. It is too early for any kind of predictions from any sport entity. Not sure where they land this year - a successful season and an improved recruiting class are essential. Failure on either I believe will bring heightened scrutiny upon Dixon. Cannot see a new president and AD sitting by on this when previous years clearly set a higher standard for the state of the program.
