"Victory Heights" announcement on Tuesday

University of Pittsburgh Chancellor Patrick Gallagher and Director of Athletics Heather Lyke will host a 1 p.m. press conference on Tuesday, January 14, at the Petersen Events Center, where they will reveal plans for Pitt’s Victory Heights athletics facility project.

The press conference will entail a speaking and visual presentation on the court, followed by a reporter question and answer session held in the media suite. In addition to Chancellor Gallagher and Athletic Director Lyke, attending media will have interview opportunities with Volleyball Coach Dan Fisher, Wrestling Coach Keith Gavin, Gymnastics Coach Samantha Snider and Track and Field/Cross Country Coach Alonzo Webb.

The presentation and interview session will be live streamed via @Pitt_Athletics. Archived video will be available on PittsburghPanthers.com.

Goes without saying, but this is absolutely massive news for volleyball, wrestling, gymnastics, and track and field - as well as for the athletic department as a whole. And it's decades overdue.

There’s been no mention of this that I saw, but I have to wonder if that venue would be better suited for our women’s hoops team...

It's been mentioned in various releases. Currently, you are right. When Agnes had Pitt's program cruising, no. The lower bowl of the Pete would be filled at least for (at least) weekend games.

Hopefully, by the time that facility is ready, the women will be winning and drawing a higher attendance. The players' lounge and workout area in the Pete are very nice and a recruiting perk. To go from there to the other court would be a letdown.
