The first thing for me in this game... is in the past... there were times when it was almost as if Dixon and company... didn't really show up.

Almost as if he didn't put much emphasis on the game because it was very difficult place to get a win and, preferring to put more emphasis on other games.

But, with the things the way they are right now... IMO you should go for it.

After this game on Thursday we got the worst team in the ACC by far in BC two days later, at home, and then we get NCS three days after that, also at home.

So, you should really go for this one. Even if you come up short, you at least know where you are at.

As far as Ville is concerned, I watched the first half of the replay of their game against Clemson, and they had a bad shooting game and I don't expect that to happen again.

There is the Pitino press... but against Clemson they pressured the ball coming out of bounds and usually, but not always, backed off after that. This is something you have to deal with when playing Pitino. It was strange some games in the past where he did NOT press us but... I expect his press in this one. So, gotta be prepared for it.

Then, they are playing tight in-your-face D. Usually teams only do this when they have a big shot blocker inside but Ville does not have one. But, this type of D has given us problems in the past (Purdue) so we will have to see. We like to pass the ball around a lot and this type of defense makes that difficult.

In the game against Clemson, they had major foul trouble with 2 guys fouling out and another 3 having four fouls. That sometimes happens when you play the tight D with no shot blocker.

So, against them, take it to the hoop and draw the fouls and keep doing that over and over.

We have our grad transfers and they have theirs. The difference is, our grad transfers are playing more of a support role with the core of the team remaining intact from last year, while with them their top two scorers are grad transfers. So, we will see if this makes much of a difference. Against Clemson, Ville looked kinda ragged at times and it is hard to have good team chemistry without a core of returning players.

Their C (Onuaku) is athletic and pretty good. More a player you would want Nelson-Ododa or Young to cover rather than Maia. We will see but I would not be surprised to see Young play a lot of minutes at C getting Jeter a lot of minutes at PF.

WOW! We really came out with a lot of energy to start the game against ND, so I can only wonder if we can come out with anything approaching that against Ville. They will be smarting after their loss to Clemson.

Nothing like accusing our Coach of throwing games. How low can you go???? Oh wait, just the other day you demanded he throw the game? How about at least keeping your ridiculous stories a wee bit consistent.

In any case... I have turned on the games with Ville down there and... it was as if the team was just going through the motions. Not really trying all that hard. Big difference between away games with Ville and those against Cuse (where we have done really well in the dome), UConn, and Georgetown.

Kinda like Cuse, UConn and Georgetown were the programs that Dixon targeted as the programs to beat, as opposed to Ville, Cincy, ND and Marquette in the OBE. We always played those teams well at home and at MSG, but did really poorly on the road against them... at least compared to how we fared on the road against the OBE teams on the east coast.

Stunning analysis. Imagine how many Final Four banners we would have if only someone had told Coach Dixon to "go for it."

There are some people that refuse to read the writing on the wall and instead just believe whatever they want to believe.

Have a nice day.

And you are basing this on what? Your subjective analysis of what is and isn't trying hard? Unless you have some way to actually prove this (the scores certainly don't support your point) then you're just making stuff up and—yes—accusing Dixon of throwing games. That's what it means to purposefully not "show up."

I just think it's usually been a bad matchup.

Before I saw the explanation here, I would watch Pitt struggle against the press, and wonder why more teams wouldn't employ it against Pitt.
Well, we do know that Louisville usually presses really well. Hence the struggles there.

And, Louisville has done pretty well at the Pete also.

Other teams that have pressed Dixon have done well at it too. There's just only so many teams built to sustain a press effectively. A bad press leads to really easy baskets.

IMO, it was because we saw the road to the top of the OBE as going through Cuse, UConn and Georgetown, while the teams to the west, ND and the teams coming in from CUSA, saw the road to the top, as going through US.

It can't be the press.... there were games Pitino came in here and... DIDN'T PRESS AT ALL. We were a pretty light team then with good ball handlers as bigs so that is probably why he decided that.

But, whatever the reason.... by my count he has beaten us the last six times running... with our last W being an OT game at The Pete the first year we had Wannamaker as a starter.

Yeah, Brey had beaten us around that many times in a row... sometimes with his BURN offense.. and we got THAT monkey off our backs and so it would be really nice to get THIS one off our backs as well.

This thread is ridiculous.

Jamie tries to win EVERY. SINGLE. GAME.

He has failed against Louisville for two reasons.

1. Louisville is usually REALLY, REALLY good. Top 10 team almost annually.

2. Rick Pitino is a REALLY, REALLY good coach. One of the all-time best.

If Pitt loses tomorrow, it will be because Louisville played better than Pitt. Not because Pitt "laid down" or decided that other games are more important so we won't try that hard.

Notre Dame has NOT beaten Pitt since both joined the ACC. Pitt has won 3 games in a row vs Brey, two of them in South Bend.
