I really enjoy watching them play basketball. A fundamentally solid team that is well coached and plays together.

Their Achilles heel for a few years was that they sometimes lacked scoring. But this group has matured, and they are a much better offensive team.

They won't show up in the PPG category as a leader because they shorten games so effectively, but their offensive efficiency numbers went from #83 two years ago to #25 last season. They're currently #13.

The difference was really very noticeable when they came in this year, and not just because Pitt employs an "ole" defense. They know what they're expected to do, they execute, and they have guys who can just flat out score.

I prefer the old glory days UNLV teams myself, but to each his own.

Bennett does a great job, but his product is not aesthetically pleasing. He's an excellent coach, in the same mold as his dad. Gets a lot with a little. I would not be surprised to see him at Wisconsin next year. He would be the perfect successor to Bo philosophically and in terms of being able to win without great personnel, but it will take a lot of $$$ to get him there, and BA is notoriously frugal.

This is what we used to be, and would be nice to get back to it.

Yea they are a real solid program.
...oh wait...no they aren't.
They only made it to a sweet 16 once in the past 20 years
and got bounced in round of 32 last year as a 1 seed.

most people on this board would be calling for Bennett to be fired.
(kinda like with Dixon......)

After Pitt, my favorite team to watch. If Anderson had stayed....wow.

Fun story but they still wont make the Sweet 16. I know stats say they are good offensively but I know what I see. Find a way to hold Brogdon down and they're out early again.

I agree. Take him out of the equation and they bow out early. He's the offense basically. Gill is good but can't do it on his own against a good team. They do have a top 10 recruiting class coming in next year though. Will be interesting to see how that works out with their style of play.

Perrantes is terrific. Kid lobs passes across the circle to lead shooters to open spots.....I've never seen that before, at any level.

Bennett's fantastic, he's about the only coach I ever really liked to be a realistic upgrade during one of the times it looked like Dixon would leave. Thought he may have been gettable back when he was at Wazzu, which is probably one of the few P5 jobs out there with less appeal.

Take Brogdon's ability to create and score in a variety of ways off the floor and they're a pretty average team. Where is the offense going to come from?

Of course, shutting down Brogdon is much easier said than done. This is a year where there are no juggernauts and UVA could make a real deep run, but I suspect they will hit their wall by the Sweet 16.

He's a hell of a coach to be sure, as his dad was, and as another of his mentors, Bo Ryan was.

Honestly I can still see Bennett going back to Wisky. He has a measly $3 million buyout and home is home. I think in most eyes outside of tobacco road, Wisconsin is historically a higher profile program than UVA. I don't see Bo Ryan's guy, Gard getting the permanent HC job. The issue is would the notoriously frugal BA pony up real money to bring Bennett home?

I could see Gard getting it on his own merits, but Bennett would likely be much better if they can swing it just given the success he's had at multiple stops and at different levels of program.

I honestly don't know which program is more high profile, honestly. People could say either one and I wouldn't argue much. Wisconsin's probably been better more recently, UVA has much more history to back up its current success. Honestly it probably just indicates that Bennett could succeed at Wisconsin since it's probably a similar level of school.

It is kind of funny, I remember people bristling at the notion that Pitt and Wisconsin were similar programs back in the day. There were some pretty frequent comparisons between the two nationally. Wisconsin just kept on doing what they do and Pitt diverged a bit from their identity. Worked out well for Wisco.
