Monday was definitely a busy first day on the recruiting trail for the Pitt staff, as the coaches fanned out across their recruiting territories - and beyond - visiting commits and top targets alike. Here’s a rundown of where they were on Monday and where they’ll be today.
- After Charlie Partridge, Rob Harley and Josh Conklin spent Sunday visiting WPIAL commits Noah Palmer and Devin Danielson, the entire staff spread out on Monday. Partridge headed to Maryland to visit with defensive end commit John Morgan. Running backs coach Andre Powell, who recruits Maryland for Pitt, was also on the visit and checked in with cornerback commit Judson Tallandier while he was at DeMatha.
The two DeMatha teammates will be on campus this weekend for their official visits.
- Offensive coordinator Shawn Watson and tight ends coach Tim Salem were in New Jersey on Monday for a pair of visits with two commits: St. Joseph Regional’s quarterback/tight end duo of Nick Patti and Matt Alaimo. Patti and Alaimo will come to town in two weeks for official visits.
- Defensive coordinator Josh Conklin and linebackers coach Rob Harley went to Virginia for a visit with linebacker commit Wendell Davis, who will visit Dec. 8-10.
- Receivers coach Kevin Sherman had arguably the biggest visits of the day, as he spent Monday in Kentucky visiting with four-star cornerback Jairus Brents and three-star receiver Rondale Moore. We’re working on gathering more details about those visits - specifically, whether Brents and Moore have scheduled official visits.
- Similarly, cornerbacks coach Renaldo Hill had a big in-home visit in Detroit Monday when he spent some time with four-star DB Kalon Gervin. Gervin has been considering a Pitt official visit for quite some time and has maintained consistent contact with Hill; we’ll see if Monday’s visit will turn into an official visit.
- If you haven’t seen it yet, check out Ryan’s post on the other recruits Hill checked on while he was in Detroit.
- Everybody was out of state on Monday, but offensive line coach John Peterson might have traveled the furthest, going all the way to Arizona to see Arizona Western C.C. offensive lineman Jahmir Johnson. As with a few of Monday’s other visits, we’re working to confirm details of Peterson’s visit with Johnson - particularly whether it will lead to an offer and an official visit.
- On Tuesday, Watson, Sherman and head coach Pat Narduzzi will be in Georgia to visit three-star receiver Jatavious Harris. Harris has two official visits scheduled - Pitt on Dec. 8-10 and Louisville on Dec. 15-17 - and then plans to make his commitment on Dec. 19 since he apparently is on track to be a midyear enrollee. It looks like he’ll pick the Panthers or the Cardinals, and while Pitt appears to be behind at this point, the in-home visit and official visit can do a lot to make up ground.
- Also on Tuesday, we’ve confirmed in-home visits for local commits Jake Kradel and Blake Zubovic, who will spend time with Peterson.
- We also confirmed that Narduzzi and Watson will be in Kansas on Wednesday to visit with junior-college running back Kevon Abrams.
Stay tuned. As always, things get interesting over the course of the day, so more news and info is bound to come out.
