Volleyball u21 National Team Roster & A Rumored Possible Transfer

The u21 national team roster has been announced. As expected Rachel Fairbanks was named. Emmy Klika is an alternate. Scanning the roster....you'll notice former Florida MB Bre Kelley entered the transfer portal earlier this month. She was an important member of Florida's team last year leading the Gators in blocks 15 times during the season and ranked second on the team in total blocks (124.0) and fourth in both kills (203) and points (278). A rumor on the volleytalk boards has her coming to Pitt. She would be a junior. We shall see.

My sense from reading the volleyball talk board is that the posts are more speculation than knowledge: Pitt needs a MB, Kelley is on the U21 team Fisher coaches; ergo, Kelley to Pitt.

Louisville was supposed to be in the hunt, but all of the Louisville players and staff who were following her no longer are, so they believe Pitt is the choice.

Hopefully, in this case speculation is accurate.

I agree with your comment about the volleytalk board. It is common for active posters on that site to mostly use instagram to make their guesses of where a prospective player is going to land. That doesn't always pan out to be true. In Bre Kelley's case, the logic of Pitt as her choice does seem to be stronger. I did not know that Louisville was a possible landing spot for Kelley and now that may no longer be the case. I think we'll know her decision.....one way or another by the end of this month....soon after the U21 team finishes their tournament.

Some poster on the volleytalk board seems particularly clued into PItt. The one saying Bree to PItt also had the Michigan State transfer before it was confirmed .

That poster also seems to be indicating a another transfer after Bree is coming . I guess we’ll find out .

Interesting! My attention is now turned to Kellen Petrone's twitter account. As you probably know....he'll tweet a PITT IS IT! message when a transfer has been locked in.....fingers crossed.

There is one poster on that board who after every confirmed transfer by a quality MB posts something like “Fisher where were you on this?”

The transfer portal in volleyball clearly has more of an impact than in other sports (aside from LSU’s haul in Womens’ basketball). Texas had six transfers, including two AAs, on its championship team last year; San Diego, which made the final 4, had only transfers get significant PT. This year, tOSU’s entire starting lineup has transferred to other schools (apparently mandated by the second year coach who recruited 6 top high school players by promising them significant PT) and Florida has lost 4 starters including 2 AAs.
