VT player can't fly to game, would have to be driven

This doesn't make sense to me, so maybe the medical professionals on here can explain it. I get that this player suffered an upper body injury that affects his respiratory system, but if it would be exacerbated by flying, how is he able to play? You'd think running pass patterns would stress the respiratory system.

No idea but he probably needs to leave tomorrow to get there in time. So much for calculus class this week. With finals in a few weeks I am sure he will be able to make up the missed class time.

Sounds like he had a pneumothorax. This is a collection of air between the be pleural cavity and lung. This can partially collapse the lung. The pressure difference with flying can cause it to reaccumulate.
 
Just stay home. Your season is over, you don’t have a coach, the game means squat. Sit this one out, no one cares.

Yeah, really. You're not driving down there to cure freaking cancer or something. We're talking about two 5-5 teams duking it out to see who plays Northern Illinois in the Old Spice Armpit Bowl on a Tuesday in mid-December.
