Not by himself he couldn't.. That's why most coaches will give their corners some safety help especially when the opposing outside receiver is the size of Lebron James.
Doesn't help that we can't get pressure on the passer unless Juan Price somehow defeats the double/triple team.
VT doubled their season passing YPG against us, and it isn't because we were lacking a 5'8 corner. Honestly one of the worst defensive coaching jobs ever. Made that mediocre VT QB look like Tom Brady.
If you're gonna play press man coverage on the outside,even with good CBs,you'd better be able to put pressure on the QB. We have a deadly combo of weak corners and no pass rush. Teams figured it out early and keep daring us to zone our safeties up to help the corners. Our coach refuses to do so out of fear that teams would be able to run on us. The results speak for themselves. We are probably the easiest defense in the country to game plan against right now.

-The VT QB you speak of that came from the Juco ranks, has 24 TD's and 2 INT's for the entire season. He has a 167 passer rating for the season, 7th best in the country, with over 2000 passing yards and another 500 rushing yards to boot. His stats are ridiculous for a 1st year QB, and he should be up for discussion for the heisman if Tech runs the table. He is the only reason Virginia Tech is even good this year.
OK Steel-you like stats, Coming into the Pitt game Evans was 49th in the country averaging a paltry 230 passing YPG. 19 TDs in 7 games. Definitely a very impressive TD to INT ratio, but mediocre yardage. He threw for over 400 yards against Pitt, nearly double his avaerage, the vast majority of which were on sideline fade routes to Hodges and Ford. Just throwing it up high against one on one coverage and letting his receivers abuse our weak corners. We never pressured him at all, he just took the snap and threw the ball up.

We are 123 of 128 D1 programs in pass defense. That says it all. Pitt is a turkey shoot for every QB and WR we play.

Not to pile on but: 1. You will never get pressure on the 3-step "go", "take-off", "9" route 2. The route is not precise, simply throw it up over the outside shoulder, let the receiver shield off the defender from the sideline and you have a completion, no need to be that accurate but a rainbow is harder to defend.

I wish Narduzzi would adjust too but I'm sure the defense has captains. Perhaps one of them grows a set and calls an audible or two. When Narduzzi says the players have to make a play on occasion he is dead right in that regard.

in all honesty, there is reason to be frustrated as a pitt fan but there is reason to believe things are going to get better. That's the problem, both sides have legit points, both make valid arguments but like most things in life, the truth is in the middle. We don't need to fire Duzzer and start over but success is not guaranteed either.. It's not as simple as it being a matter of time.. Changes, evolving, learning from mistakes is something this staff needs to do, it's not a guarantee this will happen..

Said this many times PN is similar to a offensive Guru who runs a spread read option team. He inherited a bad QB who is slow footed. He is trying to push his system on this bad immobile QB. His system has been proven to be effective, but he has to have very good QB play(CB play). I would prefer he adjust his system to allow his current CB to have a better chance and then when he gets his CB he can play his system.
