Part of it is luck. You can't predict with 100% certainty which guys are going to make big improvements. Forbes did not see a Big 12 backup and think he was going to be 1st Team All-ACC

But he developed him and has the ability to develop players. He knows he has that ability. No luck involved.

Somebody please explain how
in hell WF is 12-3. Tonight they
destroyed FSU by 22....76-54.
Last year even though we
split with them, I thought
we were the better team.
They were 6-16 last year.
They finished below us
in the ACC. Their coach is
only in his second year in
the midst of a rebuild. I
think most of us (myself
included) had them in
the basement this year
with us and BC.

Ok, no need to really explain
it. Coach Forbes won over
20 games every year at East
Tennessee State. He did even
better at two previous stops.
We're four years in, and we
can't do that?? Get the
right coach, and it can be
done here. If WF, can do it,
why not Pitt?....and IMO it
doesn't have to be a Pitino.

Their coach is very good and he brought in 2 transfers that have played really well for them. Alondes Williams has been as good as any player in the ACC and the guy from Indiana St is really good too.

To oversimplify, Forbes hit the jackpot in the portal.

He got a kid who averaged 6 PPG at Oklahoma, which isnt much different than Jamarius Burton from the same conference and he's averaging 20. If Burton turned out to be a 1st Team All-ACC guy, things would be different.

His 2nd leading scorer, he got from Indiana State, where he only averaged 12. He's averaging 15 at Wake.

Part of this is coaching. But part of it is also luck because he got 2 guys who made huge personal improvements.

Maybe he hit the jackpot because he recognized the potential talent in those 2 players. That’s what good coaches do. I’m also guessing that he didn’t recruit any Collier/Santos/Jeffress stiffs ftom HS.

Forbes has done a solid job at Wake, but Deacs really aren't very good. They have racked up a lot of wins against garbage schedule. Give them credit for curb-stomping VaTech & FSU though.
