If you’re up, tune in to ESPN for the end of the Clippers/Warriors. It’s been a great game and Steph has been unreal.

Wanamaker has had some huge minutes in the 4th hitting 2 3s and manning up on Paul George.

He played perfectly with Steph. Kerr could play them together more often.

That game was fun to watch because of how much more “connected” the Warriors play compared to the Clippers. The Clips have so much talent but they are so disfunctional at times.

The Warriors have guys like Draymond and Brad who know their role, know how to set Steph up and then also know when to attack themselves and take advantage of all the attention Steph gets. It’s fun to watch.

Watching Steph hit ridiculous step back 3s is always fun too.

I was watching that game last night and thinking of Wanamaker's level of play from when he started at Pitt, to now seeing him in the 4th qtr of a NBA matchup. I couldn't help to feel proud and admire his growth. Well done. He put in the work.

He fits well with Steph because he does not need the ball, will play the role on both ends and makes the simple plays (he still smashes people off the ball on screens and creates a lot of buckets for his teammates, which is a lost art at times in modern basketball).

That said, I think his overall value would have been realized more if Klay would not have gotten hurt. With Steph alone, I am pretty sure that time will show them to be a solid team. Mid-level playoff squad (4-7 seed). But, with Klay they are massive contenders and have a lot more options when Steph is not on the floor (obviously). In those times, because they could conceivably always structure offense around Steph or Klay, Wanamaker has a lot more value because the scoring need for the team from that position goes down.

Without that option, they need a little more scoring from his role though they seem to play a lot better with him on the floor regardless of whether he contributes to scoring or not (which was something he showed a lot at Pitt).

Brad is a good role player for a contending team. That is his niche, where he fits, at the NBA level. If he ever found himself on a rebuilding squad, he could be a savvy vet but I think his playing time in that scenario actually should not be as high for the most part because that type of team likely needs younger players soaking those minutes to potentially catch upside and his ability to lend to continuity does not mean as much.

The thing is, if I were a young team with some interesting young wings like Detroit I'd be all over paying Brad $7.5 million to be a good mentor and steady point guard which is what they're paying Derrick Rose to be worse. He'd probably give you a nice 14/5/7/2 line on 30 minutes a night with a 103 Ortg and a 110 Drtg while being a good locker room presence, sort of what Kyle Anderson is doing for Memphis right now with better shooting splits.

Not that Brad wants to be that guy, he clearly doesn't based on who he signs for, but an extra couple of million might convince him to change his mind.

Yep. But it’s clear he wants to win. Klay messed his plan a bit.

It's why I'm curious to see what he does next year in free agency. He probably has one more year of "prime" left with another couple years of long tail so he might prefer a little bit more security than a one year deal. Or maybe he just signs with the Lakers. 😄
