Quarterback Pat Bostick from Manheim Township is expected to announce this morning that he will attend the University of Pittsburgh. If it goes a different way it will be the biggest upset since President Harry Truman defeated Thomas Dewey back in 1948.

Chris Peak from the Pantherlair will make the long trek down the Pennsylvania turnpike to Lancaster this morning to cover the event. Rivals.com is also sending a cameraman to take video. There should be an AMP piece early next week available to Gold members and our annual subscribers. We had hoped to have it on Friday afternoon but point guard Eugene Harvey will announce which Big East school he will be attending later today and the AMP crew will go on to New Jersey to cover his announcement. Harvey is expected to announce he will attend Seton Hall. As long as they do not get lost along the way you should have plenty of coverage of Bostick’s announcement once they return home.

Pat Bostick is scheduled to make his announcement this morning at 9:30 AM EST. Rivals Radio will provide coverage and the plan is for Pat to do an interview with Bill King right after his press conference. There is an Internet connection on the left hand side of this site or you can listen on Sirius Satellite Radio Channel 123. There should be a replay later in the day for those of you that miss the live coverage.

Last year Dave Wannstedt landed a nationally ranked recruiting class. If it had some deficiencies (all classes do) Pitt do not land a top-ranked quarterback nor as many offensive linemen as one would have liked. The scholarship limitations that make it tough to fill all your needs in one year.

The anticipated commitment of Pat Bostick gives the Panthers a player who is arguably the best quarterback in the state of Pennsylvania in the Class of 2007. He hopes to graduate in December and start school at Pitt in January, 2007. This should give him a head start over most of the freshmen and should put him in the mix for the starting job next fall.

Bostick (6’ 3” 220) is not the most athletic quarterback but he does exude the confidence you like to see in a quarterback and he is more than capable of making all the throws. He has more than adequate size. I love the fact that he only threw 14 interceptions in over 600 throws the past two years. It shows an ability to read defenses and make good sound judgments.

While we were at the Nike Camp Chris Peak, Tony Greco and I got to spend a few minutes with Pat Bostick. Sr. and Pat’s younger brother Adam. The younger brother is a tight end and looks exactly like a younger version of his older brother.

Pat Bostick is up for an award for the MVP of the Lancaster-Lebanon Region. He is one of three finalists along with Jared Odrick (6’ 5” 300) from Lebanon. I am not sure if Pat is the favorite in this one. Odrick is a senior and will attend Penn State this fall. The award will be given out at a dinner in about a week and Pat’s father told me last night that Paul Dunn plans on attending the banquet.

Based in part on our observations at Penn State this appears to be a deep year in offensive linemen. There were a number of players in attendance with legitimate Division 1 size. We teased Coach Dunn and Coach Gattuso while they were watching that they should grab five guys and load them up in their cars and take them back with them. I am sure they wish they could.

Last week the Nike Camps hosted approximately 500 prospects at Columbus and another 500 at State College. There were a little over 200 at Rutgers on Sunday. The big reason for the smaller turnout at Rutgers is that college coaches are not allowed to attend camps on Sunday by NCAA rule. By contrast the other two camps had approximate 150 college coaches at each one. Paul Dunn, Greg Gatuso and Aubrey Hill represented Pitt on Saturday.

I was sitting in the lobby of my hotel waiting for the Nike Camp to start. I started talking to a father whose son, John Ridley, attends the Pennington School in New Jersey. I lived in Princeton, New Jersey for a number of years and this private school was located nearby. We had a number of things in common so we kept talking. It turns out his wife was from Pittsburgh and John Ridley is a cousin of Curtis Martin and of Rod Rutherford. John Ridley is not yet in the database but the young man hopes to attend Pitt’s summer camp. He is a defensive back.

Gino Gradkowski (6’ 3” 285) from Seton LaSalle, [/B]Donny Barclay[/B] from Seneca Valley and Dan Matha (6’ 7” 310) from Erie McDowell were all at the Nike Camp and they all looked good. These three linemen have offers from Pitt.

There were many others there that do not yet have offers from Pitt but are worth a second look by the staff. John Fieger (6’ 5” 265), Zac Kasparek (6’ 5” 295), Matt Ostowski (6’ 5” 290), Corey Pfautz (6’ 4” 289), A.J. Strum (6’ 5” 290) and Jake Anderson (6’ 4”290) were at all the camp. Corey Pfautz is from the same high school as Pat Bostick and some of the coaches running the camp thought he looked good. I probably should not limit the list to those mentioned because there were other big hogs there.

Pitt already has a commitment from Chris Jacobson (6’ 3” 284) from Keystone Oaks. They have also offered Evan Blankenship (6’ 3” 310) from Center and Josh Marks (6’ 5” 300) from Southern Columbia. There are big guys out there. It really gets down to Pitt identifying the ones they think fits their system and then landing their fair share. They will not get them all. It is our understanding that Pitt hopes to take five offensive linemen this year.

We talked to Henry Hynoski at the Nike Camp and again later this week. I will be very surprised if Pitt does not land him. He seemed genuinely happy to talk to a reporter covering Pitt and then later pointed me out to his father as he was leaving the camp. Wannstedt & Co. should land the big running back from Southern Columbia.

His teammate Josh Marks will go to Pitt or Penn State. The reporters covering Penn State think he is theirs to lose. I was talking to Coach Jim Roth at Southern Columbia many weeks ago. He told me Josh Marks would not attend the Nike Camp because he had nothing to gain. He had an offer from his favorite already. I suspect he meant Penn State. Pitt has made up a lot of ground but I think Penn State had a big edge going into this battle. This could go either way but Penn State could still have a slight edge here. He should decide soon.

It takes about 30 days to down load all the Nike data. This is in part due to contractual restrictions but it also takes time to process 3,300 prospects. The Miami data has now been downloaded into the player’s profiles. Bo Williams who claims at Pitt offer had the third fast time in the 40 at Miami running a 4.45. Xavier Stinson who also claims a Pitt offer had the fastest time in the shuttle at 4.03. The best effort at bench-pressing with 185 pounds at Miami was Taylor Atwood who had 24 reps. That puts into prospective the 40 reps that quarterback Joe Haden pulled off at State College. He could destroy the rep count of virtually every lineman in the country this year.

Nordonia’s Jordan Mabin ran a 4.45 in the 40 at Columbus. It was the 5th fastest time among the 500 in attendance. Mabin is a big Ohio State fan. If the Buckeyes offer he will probably accept. If he had to decide today based on current offers he would go to Pitt. We will just have to wait and see if Ohio State gets involved or if they wait too long. As you are aware he is the cousin of Dorin Dickerson.

Here are a few 40 times from State College. The top spots goes to rb/athlete Richie Walls (5’ 11” 181) from Downingtown East and Reggie Dixon (5’ 7” 158) from New Jersey who both ran a 4.38. Here are a few other times of players from Pa. sophomore A.J. Alexander from Altoona was 8th with a 4.48. Andre Freeman from Penn Hills ran a 4.53. WR Derek Moye from Rochester ran a 4.54 and WR Tim Cortazzo from Penn-Trafford ran a 4.57.

Nick Sukay from Greensburg Central Catholic has been piling up they offers. He has had a couple of impressive camp workouts so the numbers should grow. He told us he expects an offer from Penn State by the end of the month along with Notre Dame. I suspect Sukay is leaning to Penn State.

Players that could be Pitt leans and that offers include Henry Hynoski from Southern Columbia, [/B]Mo Williams[/B] from Erie Strong Vincent, Dom DeCicco from Thomas Jefferson, Brandon Lindsey from Aliquippa and Donny Barclay from Seneca Valley.

If Gino Gradkowski had to pick today it would be between Pitt and West Virginia and I think the Mountaineers would have a slight edge. Gradkowski received a lot of favorable props at the Nike Camp so interest in him should grow.

Pitt received a verbal commitment from Perry defensive back Jared Williams (5’ 9” 189) this week. Pitt was his only offer to date but let’s face it the City League is not the first stop of most college coaches. Pitt, West Virginia and the MAC schools tend to check them out first. It takes a lot to become more than just a regional recruit if you play in the City League. One of our subscribers pointed out that the Pitt coaches offered him very early in the process so they obviously saw something they liked. Chris Peak reports that he looked good at Metro Index Camp workouts this week.

Rivals.com will have video this coming Monday on Seneca Valley’s Donny Barclay.
