Perfect storm happened and Pitt/VT was on short-end of stick.

With the women'st tournament starting this week, Fox Sports South is booked and they chose NCSU/BC over Pitt/VT for a 9PM tip after their womens tourney coverage ends. Its important to note that that selection was made BEFORE the season.

Raycom chose Wake/Duke and GT/Lou for their usual Tuesday split syndication 8PM game.

And ESPN decided not to televise, felt it had better games to show.

This is the first untelevised conference game (besides Gtown snow makeup of 03 and SHU snow game) since 2002. Good news is its on ESPN3 with no blackouts.

Walmart, Best Buy etc sell the adapter you need to connect your laptop to your tv... if anyone was curious. That way you can watch ESPN3 on your TV.

I'll be live in person, finally. I often end up teaching on the nights Pitt plays in Blacksburg or within a few hours.

Most laptops dont require an adapter as most have HDMI inputs. Just hook an extra HDMI cable into your laptop. There's a million other ways to watch this game on your TV, just takes being a little creative.

yes, done it multiple times, that's how I watched the pitt/akron game.. Great quality, reminded me of watching my high school football games on the local access TV, or my grade school games on my dad's camcorder.. ACC, also known as The HDMI conference..

Use an HDMI cable and you'll get a much better picture.

I did, it was terrible. Maybe it was my computer or fios connection. Just bought a new one yesterday actually, will hope for a better product.. Still freakin pathetic that in this day and age, you need to jump thru these loops to watch a D1 basketball game.. ACC blows..

Yeah, may have been your internet speed. I thought since you replied to the post about the "adaptor" you had used a VGA adaptor, which doesn't give you as good a picture. When I watch on my Apple TV or when I used to connect via HDMI, the picture has normally been quite good, although the Apple TV picture seems to be a bit better. Not sure why...

Debating with my wife about whether or not we should drive to Blacksburg. Small threat of snow in WV means I lost the debate.

I went out and bought a HDMI cable, hooked it straight from laptop to tv.. Horrible picture. I remember watching the replay a few days later on root and it being a little better but not much..

Pitt @ Akron was a low-budget ESPN production because it was part of the MAC TV deal. Fewer cameras, bad announcers, lesser technology. Pitt/VT bball will not be like that.

I've been watching my computer on my TV for 6 years. If you have a computer ready TV, which is all of them sold today, all you need is a remote keyboard and mouse. You get a little chip that plugs into your computer, hit your imput to the correct setting and there you go.

Not always enough band width from my Verizon DSL feed especially when too many neighbors are checking email. No FIOS available where I live. Get periods of sound only and picture quality fluctuates between fuzzy and good when there is enough bandwidth. 7 pm games are the worst time slot if all.

This never happened to us in the Big East. Maybe once every 4 years or so.

Garbage. We are a Yankee in this hillbilly conference.

Swervin - we were there and trust me, even in person the picture was awful. That's what happens when you have a football game in the middle of a mini-tsunami. We were soaked.

There are multiple millions of reasons why the ACC is superior to the Big East, so we're absolutely NOT going there again with you people.

I'd suggest the rest of the world start to understand how the Chromecast, ROKU, Apple TV, or streaming device of your choice works. Because it's not like the situation is going to get better. ESPN has too much content to put it all on a network. Even if there is an ACC network, they'll struggle to air every single game on an ESPN platform. That means that while Pitt is making well over ten million per year more than their Big East brethren in revenue - their fans will have to take the terrifying leap of putting an app on their phone, or learning how to cast a tab from their computer to the thing plugged in to the side of their tv they can't see.

honestly, if you can't figure out streaming to a Chromecast and you drive a car - please stop driving tomorrow because you're a dumbazz.

First the type of Internet you have did not matter for the Pitt Akron game. I have great internet service as well as a $300 dollar router and it was a pathetic image. Probably because of the cameras ESPN used for the game or the storm that was going on.

Second the Acc has been disappointing in regards to television coverage both in football and basketball.

That's it. Look no one here is suggesting we should not have gone to the ACC. We had to make that move. But also let's for once be HONEST about things and admit the ACC broadcast rights are second rate compared to other conferences including the former Big East (BB wise). Okay? Can you guys be honest for once? Please don't act like the ACC is some kind of innovative, ahead of the curve entity with alternative broadcast outlets because trust me, if anyone would be it would be the Big 10 or SEC.

This is a bunch of cornpone, tobacco stained southern fried ****s who just aren't willing to change fast enough and as long as the Carolina crew are take care of, they aren't motivated to look to improve the situation.

You think the Internet feeds are old fashioned thinking ?

You're being silly .
Nobody and I mean nobody mismanaged tv deals like the media savy big east .
Never recall having to talk about laptops, hdmi cables and Apple TV to watch a big east basketball game in February or March. Really don't recall having to do that for big east football either, despite it being an inferior product.

You sound like Marco Rubio.

He didn't say any of that.

He said television wise they aren't thinking progressively and the big east had a better television deal for basketball. (It's irrelevant if they mismanaged deals.)

What is a Blackout? How is my location determined if the event is blacked out?
Blackouts apply to telecasts that have been sold regionally or locally per league, conference and local rightsholder agreements. Regional and local rights holders are usually broadcast stations or regional sports networks. Blackouts are implemented to protect the primary rights holder, as defined by the professional and college sports leagues or teams in a given market.

Agree 100% about the feed for the Akron game was horrible as well as the ACC coverage for football & basketball.

I picked up a K-U band sat a few years ago and the ONE thing I like about the ACC is they put their feeds up on it for many of their games. I get almost all the games they show expect the games that make it to the regional sports networks such as ROOT.

It's real handy since I had the Louisville game last week without going to ESPN3 to watch it.

How do you transfer the game from phone to tv?? I apologize if it was already answered. Thanks in advance

That's how I do it. Download the WatchESPN app. Get a special cord that links your phone to an HDMI cable. Instead of plugging in your charger, you plug in the "link." Then you plug the link into an HDMI cable. Couldn't be easier.

The cord cost me $8 on Amazon though the first one I bought (some knock off from China) didnt work and Amazon refunded me.

You probably wont get it in time for the game but you can go to Best Buy and buy a name brand link cord for $30 or $40.

There are less Pitt games "easily available" in Philly, NY, and NJ which happen to have sizable alumni bases. Other than that, Pitt's availability everywhere else is as good or better than under the Big East contract.

Philly, NY, and NJ have too much pro content plus syndicated Big East games that dont make FS1 to show. If you live in Pittsburgh, Idaho, San Francisco, or Orlando, Pitt's availability is about the same.

That is correct!
We're in the middle of the NY and Philly market and can get Big East & A 10 games every weekend. Not to mention Sixers, Flyers, soon the Phillies, NY pro sports, etc. PITT has been on ESPN3 most of the time with a few nationally televised games.
We get an ESPN 3 blackout when one of the local cable TV companies carries the PITT game and our cable co doesn't have that channel. Plan B is the ACC.com live feed.

Again, when you have to essentially play Twister to watch an ACC conference BB game, it is backasswards. It is not progressive. I don't care if you get this or that, the fact is, other conferences can figure out how to get most of its games on broadcast networks, the ACC can't because of a horrible Raycom alliance.

And I am not SMF or a media mogul, but who the hell is Raycom and when were they last relevant in broadcast television? The ACC has expanded in scope, it is time for its conference media affiliations to act accordingly.

great call recruits, my thoughts exactly. the fact that we have to have threads about chords and Roku and apple tv, to watch an ACC basketball game is ridiculous.. Can it be done? Sure. I could also watch a cock fight in El Salvador on ESPN International if I got the right internet feed but the point is, you shouldn't have to research how to watch a pitt v. va tech game..

Raycom Media owns many local TV stations around the country. Maybe up to 100, not sure but its a lot. To give those local TV stations programming, they started a sports syndication company, Raycom Sports and they entered into contracts, decades ago with the ACC and SEC and others. We used to watch Pitt play on Raycom (WTAE) would pick it up when we were an Independent in football. Syndication was big business back then. But with the explosion of sports cable channels, sports syndication died a slow death. Raycom was down to 2 contracts, SEC and ACC. The SEC cut cords with them about 7-8 years ago with their new ESPN contract. Raycom Sports (not Raycom Media) was on the verge of going out of business if the ACC followed the SEC's lead and cut them out. Instead Swofford, sighting tradition, made a deal with ESPN, who promised to let Raycom live, instead of testing the open market when their TV rights came due. Conspiracy theories abound because Swofford's son is an exec at Raycom.

I dont like Raycom, believe me. I think the ACC has grown past syndication and hopefully there is an ACC channel soon and Raycom Sports will be out of business.

Are you kidding me? I've had to watch like half their games on ESPN3 living in eastern PA. Complete joke. Definitely more games on standard channels when we were in Big East. I can barely see on the ESPN3 games, it is so grainy - especially when you blow it up on the big screen.

to anyone claiming that internet streaming is a decent replacement for television: You can't record an internet stream like you can a DVR.
So that means you are forced to be planted in front of the screen as it happens live. I haven't done that for a full game since 2006

If you live outside of Pittsburgh like me, almost all games are ESPN3
