some family obligations, but while I was watching Pitt was in total control of the game-offense was physical and running the ball easily, defense was stopping the run, couple of scary moments with wide open deep receivers downfield, but no harm done. Browne looked meh but we didn't need him to be superman, he was managing the game nicely. We were up a very comfortable-looking 21-0.

So WTF happened????

So, you jinxed us?

YSU realized at halftime that there's no reason to play it safe against Pitt's defense since there's no pass rush and no Whitehead, and Browne is not a gamer. That's pretty much it in a nutshell.

Stayed plain vanilla and tried to mail it in.
I really don't buy that as the explanation for a game that went into OT against a D1-AA team. When a coach is in danger of losing to a team like that, he isn't worrying about concealing things from next week's opponent.

Maybe they played a little vanilla, but you have to ask yourself, if you are now tied in the fourth quarter, do you not throw that out the window as a coach?
Plus all the jet sweeps in the first half aren't vanilla.

YSU tried to keep to conventional offense in the first half that they'll likely run against most of their regular opponents. Standard run run pass stuff. Our running defense was able to control them with that. They had some pass plays open for big potential gainers and scores, but didn't complete them. Later in the game, when also passing all the time, they did.

That would have been acceptable if we had kept moving the ball and scoring. But,
alarmingly during the 2nd half, our OL and backs seemed to wear down, rather than wearing down YSU's "overmatched" defense. The play calling certainly did get more conservative as well. But there were more failed drives and punts. YSU eventually did score and since we hadn't built a commanding lead (21 is nothing in college football), one td gave them instant new life.

The possession after the turnover that should have resulted in an automatic game clinching short TD, but failed on uninspired play calls, resulting in the first missed chip shot FG, also was a massive break for YSU.

The score wouldn't have been much more impressive, but if we had clinched there with a TD as we should have, the feeling of the game would have been a little different, I believe.

Pellini figured out that Zeise is this year's version of

Tristan roberts
Joe trebitz
Max gruder
Brian Bennett
Greg Williams

That's enough....

I'm getting nauseated......

YSU figured out that Pitt wasn't going to throw downfield and started selling out to stop the run. They also realized that Pitt had no defense for a basic wheel route. It's pretty much that simple.

You put your family above Pitt football? What's wrong with you?

says the superfan who wants Pitt to spend more and/or cheat to win while sitting home watching his princess play chase the ball on the pitch rather than attending games or donating money.

Seriously of all the wack jobs in cyber space, you are probably at the top of the list. I'm sure you have your DVR all set for Saturday after boozing it up with the soccer moms.

Exactly! You nailed it. Her game is at 1:00 pm, and it's away, like a 90 minute drive. So we won't be back to the school at least until 4:30-5:00 pm. This is big time, she's starting on high school varsity this year, who cares about Pitt/Penn State! "F" that. But no, I won't miss the Pitt game, the DVR is set and Saturday evening, I'll be glued to the TV. Just need to avoid social media all afternoon.

LOL, I made that post thinking of you SMC! You didn't disappoint. :)

Actually, I do wish the soccer moms (and dads) would tailgate? That would make it more fun. Oh well.
