Heck of a way to end the season.....kind of feel bad for them.....completely throttled by Pitt to end season....losing 8 players.....half the team.....not a member of any conference going into next year.

What’s next for WSU
A perennial power in the always-tough Pac-12 Conference, the WSU volleyball team faces an uncertain future without a schedule or conference next season.
USC, UCLA, Stanford, Cal, Oregon, Washington, Colorado and Utah are all leaving the conference next year.
On top of that, WSU will lose eight standout players in libero Karly Basham, Isanovic, defensive specialist Peyton Claus, Timmer, defensive specialist Julia Norville, Jehlarova, outside hitter Weronika Wojdyla and middle blocker Lana Radakovic.
“We’re going to do everything in our power to just keep doing what we do as Washington State volleyball and that is eight straight NCAA appearances,” Greeny said. “We’re going to coach the same way, we’re going to recruit the same way.
“Even though we’re not sure who we’re playing, as a volleyball program, I think we belong in a Power Five conference for sure. ... It’s sad to not have that conference anymore for sure.”

Oregon State and Washington State will play in the Pac 2 for football in 2024-25 and 2025-26. They have a 2 year grace period where they can "keep" the conference despite having fewer than the required amount of minimum teams. I think they are waiting for landscape changes and for court cases and claims to revenue to play out. In the end, if nothing changes, they will most likely merge with the Mountain West but keep the Pac 12 name. It has to be a merger though, legally, because if they just add 8 or so MWC schools and leave some out, those MWC schools would have to pay a buyout. In a merger, they would not.

What happens to the other sports remains a question. I would think those 2 teams play in the Mountain West or WCC in 24-25 and 25-26.

Honestly, I am not sure I feel too bad for them. They were crystal clear during yesterday's broadcast that their recruiting is focused towards players outside of the US, not in the state of Washington or surrounding states. In a matter of fact, they roster more players from different countries than from different states. I am all about diversity, but those recruiting tactics certainly aren't benefiting those hardworking high school players who reside in their very own state.

It's a bit of an untapped market, so to speak. I don't think the Pacific Northwest is much of a haven for volleyball but I get your point.

What I don't understand is,Why didn't the ACC just take them and Oregon State in as well? Why they took SMU is beyond me.SMU belongs in the BIG 12. The two Pac 12 schools don't belong in the ACC either, but at least they are rivals. They should have taken the four remaining PAC 12 Schools and let SMU end up somewhere else.

You expect anything about conference realignment to make sense?

Washington State is in the NE end of the state. The closet college to them is the University of Idaho. I don’t think the state is a high school volleyball hotbed, but the number of Div. 1 players produced by NE Washington — and I’m just guessing here — is probably zero.

You must hate the way Fisher recruits. Not one player from PA on the team. 4 from California; 2 from Ohio and Hawaii; one each from Utah, Colorado, Illinois and Texas. And —gasp — one ftom Puerto Rico. What about all the “hardworking PA high school players” being deprived of scholarships by those Californians and Hawaiians?

Maybe the most uniformed post ever here, and that takes in a lot of territory.

You might not want to watch Pitt men's soccer then.

Oregon State and Washington State really are Mountain West programs lucky enough to be in the Pac 12. I didn't like the SMU addition but I like them better than Oregon State. I dont understand why the Big 12 didnt add them. They added friggin Cincy, Houston, and have 2 different Utah teams.

Dude, I simply said I don't feel bad for them and do not agree with their recruiting. I also admitted to being a novice volleyball poster in my previous posts. I guess this is why there are numerous posts on the other boards about you being a weird creepy guy.

The template to remain nationally competitive out West without major conference backing is there with the University of San Diego. Who weirdly didn't make the tournament this season but made 25 of the last 28 tournaments.

Not easy, but do-able.

There are enough good volleyball teams in the Far West, primarily in California, to do it. The question is will they all be willing to schedule Washington State and Oregon State. All of them already are in conferences.

I suspect Washington State will be decimated by the portal. San Diego used it to great effect last year when they made the Final Four. When they played Texas, all 6 of their starters and 5 of Texas’ starters were transfers.

SMU is playing in the ACC for no revenue share, so the extra money the ACC gets from ESPN for SMU is being split among the remaining teams. If WSU and Oregon State want a similar deal, the ACC might think about it, but they don't have the boosters to cover it...few schools do. SMU has way more upside than either of them though and Pitt can't even match SMU's booster $.

Stanford and Cal are also massive academic brands, way more household names nationally than Pitt, and they are taking reduced shares, but SMU is taking none.

And those three teams got in the ACC by the skin of their teeth.

Thanks for the explanation.
