Mizzou announces discovery of major violations occurring under Frank Haith, per NCAA review. Biggest one is (of course) major impermissible benefits violations. Same as what he got hit with in Miami with Durand Scott and others.

Guy is the master at leaving right before stuff hits the fan. Helps explain his sudden departure for Tulsa, most likely.

He's still going to get sanctioned by the NCAA. You can't just leave a school to avoid it anymore.

Oh I agree, he just always seems to hop at the perfect time to not be completely embroiled (e.g. Mizzou has now self-imposed a postseason ban and vacated their wins, plus who knows what else will happen). He'll still probably get a show-cause or something like that but won't necessarily feel the full effects of his current program being punished.

I remember Mizzou was a rumored destination for Khem Birch after he left Pitt.

I also remember a lot of rumors that all of the elite Canadian recruits at the time were bought by their respective destinations (including a rumor that Skerry paid to get Birch to Pitt).

No idea if any of those rumors are true, but Birch being associated with Haith and then UNLV (who, in addition to being infamously dirty, also landed fellow Cannuck Anthony Bennett) potentially lends some support.

Anthony Bennett interest in UNLV was in large part because he played right down the street at Findlay Prep.

True. But Findlay Prep - the high school basketball team without a high school - was founded by former UNLV player and current booster Cliff Findlay.

Again, no idea if anything untoward happend with Birch, Bennett, or any other Canadian player but it's not too hard to connect the dots if you're inclined to do so.

Looks like Frank Haith is the most blissfully unaware sad sack in the sport of college basketball. Just victimized by outside sources:

Thinking that this isn't prevalent in college athletics is being naive . Some programs are just more blatant about how they do it. No matter what line of business your in with this much cash on the line there's just going to be people who will do whatever it takes.

Call me naive, then.

Because I don't believe that Jamie is doing anything shady. After 13 years, there isn't even the hint of it.

SOME coaches and programs are honest. I am proud that we are one of them.

I agree, mostly I would point to the fact that Skerry and then Birch took off so quickly. I always suspected recruiting methods was a possible sticking point after he was hired. Unless Towson St was his dream job.

I don't think JD walks in with a duffle bag filled with cash or that Pitt is a significant player in violating the rules ,but I just don't believe that all D1 athletes aren't treated just a little bit special as compared to other students which does violate the rules. Remember Birch came here and others wanted him pretty badly. I'm just thinking out loud here ,but do you think he turned down something so he could come and play for Pitt ? Maybe that's why the assistant responsible for his recruitment left who knows. I do think that JD runs as clean a program as you can.

Then people why I say it's shady that Mustapha Heron end up at freakin Auburn with Bruce Pearl.....It is NOT sour grapes, it is reality....leopards don't change their spots

We are allowed to talk about coaches cheating, just not in direct response to the "why does that school/coach get these kids and Pitt doesn't?" bellyaching posts because then it's just excuse making and overstating things.

You need to finish the title of the thread with "So what is new," or something similar that rhymes with blue.
