We have 2 staff members focused on the portal

I still believe that if Capel is to be successful next year, he'll have to do so by recruiting from the high schools with players immediately eligible for 2022/23. They'll need to be top 100 guys, nothing lower than that. He'll need multiple 3* and 4* guys. And recruit guys from the transfer portal from schools that are major P6 programs, not the lower level schools where chances of success at this level are questionable.

Even if he does that, his chances of success are still very questionable because after all, Capel just isn't a good coach at all. Let's face it...him getting good high school recruits now and getting at least 4 or 5 quality guys from the portal is not likely to happen.

Not many if any left and what kid in that range is coming into this mess and thinking Capel may only be around for a year. I guess the new transfer rules make it a bit more likely but his best and only chance is to land transfers.

Whether that’s sustainable long term who knows. But he’s year to year at this point clearly.

Yes, I understand that fully. I know his chances of getting any high school kid worth anything at this point are 0. I was trying to point out the futility of his situation right now.

Transfers are different. My question is with the quality of the transfers he's supposedly targeting right now. Are any of them from high end P6 schools? I doubt it. He's going after kids who were pretty good at lower level schools and have not proven anything yet that they could be even marginally successful in a P6 ACC school or any P6 program.

Agreed. People have pointed to Iowa state. Which isn’t a good comparison. Otzleberger was new with maybe some hope or something to sell. Capel’s going into year 5 with a pretty lousy history. I would even think the transfer pool is limited to 1 year guys. Why would anyone with more years of eligibility use their freebie to come here?

How many people thought Mo Gueye from Stoneybrook would be nothing more than a shot blocking spare part. The point is that you never know what a player will bring to the program til they are part of it. Obviously Peyton and to a lesser extent Oladapo ended up being reaches, but having success at a lower level doesn't mean you can't have success moving up.

Collier is transferring out from an ACC program, but will likely transfer down. It's a crap shoot either way. You're asking for quality transfers to a program that hasn't sniffed the tournament in six years.

Bottom line is that this program needs to get damn lucky with who they bring in regardless of where they're from.

There aren’t many high schoolers who are going to come in and be as effective as Mo and Burton . Those they are aren’t likely going to Pitt . Pitts road to success goes through the portal for the foreseeable future .

Remember Will Jeffress was a 4* .

I can assure you that the thoughts of grumpy grown men on a message board don't reflect on HS and portal players Capel is recruiting. You have no idea how you'd feel if you developed a personal relationship with Capel and he was telling you he could get you to the next level.

The first mistake for the young man was in developing a personal relationship with Capel. That's a big mistake. Keep it entirely business. Then don't believe a word he tells you until you see some proof that he means it.

Your taking Pitt bb was too seriously , going to play college athletics is not just about winning . It’s also about growing up and developing relationships for the student athletes . For a very few it’s their prelude to a professional career ,but for most college athletes their education and relationships will be how they earn a living . There’s not many relationships in college athletics more important than a coach and their players .

To you it’s just about winning and if you don’t win it’s because your just a horrible human being .

Plus no one’s coming to play for you unless there’s some personal bond .

Capel is connected to everyone in basketball. CBB and NBA. Developing a personal relationship with him is probably in their best interest.

Not everyone. You might want to let him know that he needs some connections with High School recruits/ Assistant Coaches and Sports Psychologists..

6 years in a row he has a losing record. Might need to get new connections..

The Only connections I see with Capel is “ How to make up Excuses to why he’s a failure”

All college coaches have connections. Nothing about Capel and this program screams I want to go play for him.

Hahaha. He’s a Complete Failure as a coach and Man..

His players can’t get out of Pitt Quick enough. The Only one staying and giving him any recognition is a CAR THIEF..

The guy has nothing here. No recruits.. No plan.. No future..

Lol. It’s almost comical how bad he has failed..
