Depends

do you plan on the 22-23 campaign being without a coach?

because they can’t afford to fire Capel pay out 17 mil and hire anyone new…

There is no 17 or 15 million.

The most he sees is 8. 3 million salary for next year and 5 million buyout.

His only choice is to take that 8 now or have to wait for it until the end of. Next season.

There is no 15-17.

Are there any rumblings from big $$$ boosters or the AD about the incompetency of Capel and his staff? I haven't heard a peep. If Dixon had 4 years like this, or even 2 years like this, the boosters and the AD would have fired him long ago, buyout or no buyout. There are millions of $$$ floating around the country right now with coaches who were bought out at other programs. Pitt should be no different.

Apparently we only push good competent coaches out the door..? The ones that are truly awful are just left alone. See also: Jackie Sherrill

Total buyout money in football, basketball over last 15 years

(Total years in parentheses)

2. Auburn: $26.2 million (11)
3. Florida: $25.3 million (15)
4. Kansas: $23.8 million (14)
5. UCLA: $23.6 million (12)
6. Arizona State: $22.4 million (15)
7. Louisville: $21.8 million (15)
8. Texas: $20.9 million (11)

If they can do it and are doing it, we can too. Let the big mouth, big money donors pay it out.

Jeffress? Who cares? He'd probably be asked to leave.

If he loses enough key players, I think its possible he may agree to an $8 million buyout instead of going 0-20. If the key players come back, so will he.

Jeffress should get an academic scholarship and go for his degree. That's more important than basketball.

The rest....who cares? Most will not be back.

They have been coachless for 4 years. So what is the difference?

Any school with a great medical school. Forget basketball. Get the academic scholarship and pursue your degree. If he wants to be in medicine, Pitt is near or at the top.
Uhhh. Pitt is a top 5-20 medical school based on various metrics.

I think Harvard med school is basically free to those that get in.

If I am Jeffress, I am seriously considering Harvard. He'd be a solid 10 PPG guy in the Ivy, go to the NCAAT, and get a great degree

Harvard didn't even make the Ivy League tournament this year, let alone the NCAA tournament.

Which is kind of funny, because the Ivy League tournament is actually at Harvard this year.

Sherrill would have stayed at Pitt just as Dixon would have stayed at Pitt if certain boosters didn't open their big mouths.
That's the first time I've heard anything about boosters and Sherrill. Bozik .

Top 4. 8 teams
Which is really stupid. Either send the regular season champ or have an actual tournament, not a 2 round "playoff" on a neutral court? What's the point of the regular season?

I always say the winners of these conference tournaments should play the regular season champ for the auto bid.

Sherrill wanted to be in control of the football program , Bozik told him don’t let the door hit you on the way out we got Foge . Worked out just great for Pitt .

Well I think by only allowing half the teams make the tournament, it makes the regular season more meaningful ... you have to finish in the top half of the league to even get a shot. If you let all 8 in, then the regular season means less. With 8 in, the regular season only matters for seeding, which on a neutral court means very little. Other leagues do not invite every team to their tournament ... the MAC (also playing at a neutral site) only allows 8 of 12 teams to make its tourney.

For these 1 bid leagues, I actually think your idea of letting the regular season champ play the tourney champ is not a bad idea. Of course, that allows the regular season champ to take the conference tourney a bit less seriously knowing they always have one more shot.

Up until only about 5 years ago, they didn’t even have a conference tournament. Just sent the regular season champ.

The real question is....what happens after we lose on Tuesday? How many players enter the portal? Are Capel and his staff finally gone?
Man do I hope so. I hope all the players leave and we are forced to start over. I would rather not even have a men’s bball team than have this garbage.

Yeah , let’s rip down the Pete and build a football stadium !

Right....40 years wandering in the desert. But I don't recall ANY boosters wanting him out. And I was pretty well connected back then. I played a round with Jackie the prior spring. He said he loved Pitt and the people he met. "They changed my life."
