We lose on Tuesday and

Right....40 years wandering in the desert. But I don't recall ANY boosters wanting him out. And I was pretty well connected back then. I played a round with Jackie the prior spring. He said he loved Pitt and the people he met. "They changed my life."
I believe it was the eggheads not the boosters that forced Jackie to go to Texas A &M .

Well I think by only allowing half the teams make the tournament, it makes the regular season more meaningful ... you have to finish in the top half of the league to even get a shot. If you let all 8 in, then the regular season means less. With 8 in, the regular season only matters for seeding, which on a neutral court means very little. Other leagues do not invite every team to their tournament ... the MAC (also playing at a neutral site) only allows 8 of 12 teams to make its tourney.

For these 1 bid leagues, I actually think your idea of letting the regular season champ play the tourney champ is not a bad idea. Of course, that allows the regular season champ to take the conference tourney a bit less seriously knowing they always have one more shot.
The conference tourney probably makes nice bank, even in Mayberry. And I'd miss Boeheim complaining about the food options.

Total buyout money in football, basketball over last 15 years

(Total years in parentheses)
1. Nebraska: $27.9 million (15)
2. Auburn: $26.2 million (11)
3. Florida: $25.3 million (15)
4. Kansas: $23.8 million (14)
5. UCLA: $23.6 million (12)
6. Arizona State: $22.4 million (15)
7. Louisville: $21.8 million (15)
8. Texas: $20.9 million (11)
9. Tennessee: $20.2 million (7)
10. Texas A&M: $18.9 million (15)

If they can do it and are doing it, we can too. Let the big mouth, big money donors pay it out.

Outside of Texas A&M, when was the last time any of those schools won anything? They burned the money and hired another mediocre coach. Soon those numbers will go up for those schools. If you are going to fire a coach and pay him to go away, then you better have a really coach coming in. For that, it's going to cost you even more money...

Which is really stupid. Either send the regular season champ or have an actual tournament, not a 2 round "playoff" on a neutral court? What's the point of the regular season?

For the Ivy League, the point of the regular season is to finish in the top 4 so you make the conference tournament.

Similarly, for the ACC the point of the regular season is to finish in the top 15 so you make the conference tournament.

If the regular season champ takes the tournament less serious because they have a fallback of playing the tourney champion, that's on them. I hate to see all these 23-7 regular season champions loose to 18-15 teams every year. It makes the NCAAT much less interesting without the better mid-majors.

I’m not there yet. But if this terrible play continued for years and years longer I might be in favor!
I knew you know I was kidding , but what a shame what they’ve done to once was such an exciting program. I feel bad for the students , great athletics is such a plus for your time in school .

That's the first time I've heard anything about boosters and Sherrill. Bozik .

I didn't phrase that quite right. It was Bozik with Sherrill leaving. I was referring to the boosters pushing out Dixon, not Sherrill. Both loved Pitt and wanted to stay here.

Sorry for the confusion.

With Jackie, we would have been like the U was with Johnson after Schnellenberger
Damn shame. Sometimes we can’t get out of our own way.
