Based on the discussion here about the body language and lack of concern Capel has and the essential bottom feeding of the Pitt brand in hoops right now, the best chance for finding a coach that will care and make the effort to resurrect this University’s team is a Pitt grad who “Hails to Pitt” routinely.

Jeff has effed this up so badly we cannot take a chance on a one and done type coach. You just cannot.

No we don’t. Stop the parochial nonsense. We need to find a good coach and whether they are a Pitt grad or not shouldn’t have any bearing.

Yeah, Narduzzi didn’t go here, but it hasn’t seemed to harm his affinity for the school, city, region, etc. - if you didn’t know differently, you might think he was a yinzer.

You don’t need to hire a yinzer, though, or even a Pitt alum to hire someone who embraces this place (though it makes it more of a sure thing). There are a lot of basketball coaches out there who probably liked and appreciated what Pitt basketball was all about and the level of play in the 2000’s. Find one of those guys.

I think those of you who think we can hire the “right guy” are whistling past the graveyard. I am not an advocate for hiring Pitt guys but right now this program is in the dregs and any outside “right guy” who takes it may be as suspect as Jeff Money Chaser.

There is a concern that if we hire a rich guy (an established coach), he may not give it his all like Stallings and Capel.

There is also the thought, if we hire the young up and comer, who hasn't made any real money yet, that that guy is too big of a risk since most of those guys fail.

I'd split the difference and hire the rich, established coach that knows exactly what he's getting into and has a desire to elevate his alma mater. This would be Sean Miller.

What do you really think about Sean Miller? Do you like him?

at this point , would be awesome to see him come back.
Tickets would be sold for sure.

The only qualified “Pitt man” for the job who is actually available is Sean Miller. So congrats your qualifications for the job netted one candidate… and one who most schools wouldn’t touch with a 10 foot pole.

Sean won’t have the energy to lift the program or an incentive to prove himself
Promise him naming rights to the next Pitt football stadium that I have been assured multiple times on this board that it is in the works.

I would guage another Pitt guy's interest: Jamie Dixon. He's going to the NCAA Tournament but he's always willing to look around and they have a new AD there who didn't let him interview at UCLA so they could have a strained relationship

Outside of Sean Miller and I guess Orlando Antigua, what Pitt alumni are qualified to coach this team? I know BK is a popular choice but his lack of head coaching experience should, in my opinion, keep him out of the running given just how steep a climb he'll have. The only other options are Ricardo Greer and Tray Woodall, and neither of them have coaching experience at the high major level. There's no reason for Pitt to restrict its candidate pool to former players. Being invested in a job is literally the lowest bar a coach should be expected to clear.

I actually like that idea, does he cheat? I hope so, and if he had a few 25 win seasons and got caught and fired, that would be more fun than what we see now.

Anyone that graduated from Pitt is better qualified than who we have now. Hell I would take DT as coach or Poker.

He does but people will point out that even though he was cheating and winninng 30 games per year, he made the cardinal sin of not making the Final Four so that means he will go 11-21 here like Capel

Well whoever it is he’ll get to use the ol’ favorite “dumpster fire” in his welcoming presser….

His replacement took the team that he went 11-9 in conference with and has them the number two team in the country and almost certainly a number one seed in the NCAA tournament.

If you want an Arizona coach go after the good one, Tommy Lloyd.

What? Tommy who? Yeah, exactly. A guy that you never heard of who was never a head coach before took over at Arizona and in one year is doing a whole lot better than your savior ever did.

I guess he was not in the category of “guarantee,” was he?

Yeah, Mark Few knows a little bit about bringing in players and coaches who make a difference. Oh, and he knows how to develop both too.

Another feather in Sean's cap. Bringing in #1 seed type players. How soon can we get this guy? We can have him recruit and then bring a WCC assistant to coach the team.

That worked great for the football program over the year. No retread coaches and look at all available options.

There is a coach out there for a team that is still playing in their tournament and would bring this program back to at least respectability and would generate a lot of enthusiasm and interest. He's a winner and a decent guy. He knows how to coach and prepare his players for games, which is something we haven't had for 6 years now. 20+ wins are routine for him. If I said his name, I'd have the usual suspects on this board coming down on me because of their shortsightedness.

The problem is he's not coming here because the program is in such horrible shape after the Capel dumpster fire. He can turn programs around and build them, but Pitt may be beyond help now unless we tear it down completely from the AD on down and keep boosters completely out of any discussions about anything.

Making the Final 4 is great, but back in the day, I enjoyed the BET more than the NCAAT. While I'd love to make the Final 4, MOSTLY, enjoying Pitt basketball TO ME is mainly about having 20-25 compelling TV shows between December and March where they usually WIN or are close to WINNING, I'd be happy to win 17-25 games every year even if they where worse in the tournament than Jamie was.

Losers say that Tournament Success doesn’t matter.. If we flamed out in the Big East Tourney and Made Final 4s, losers like yourself would say the Big East Tournament doesn’t matter. It’s what losers like yourself do. Lose
I just enjoy at least a few good TV shows, I enjoyed the BET more, just because we won 3-4 days in a row for like 7 of 8 years. Sure I'd love to win the NCAAs every year, but in lieu of that, I'll take 20-25 wins or an ACCT title, for more nights of good TV entertainment between December and March.

Heinz Field naming rights are set to expire.

Easy solution, buy the naming rights and call the new stadium "UPMC/PITT Stadium".

Pitt has a stadium for a fraction of the cost of building one.

EASY!!!!

HAIL TO PITT!!!!

I don’t agree, coach K didn’t go to Duke, Nick Saben didn’t go to Alabama,

Pat Narduzzi is a “Pitt guy.” He isn’t from Pittsburgh, nor did he go to Pitt, but he has embraced the city and the school as his own and has created a program that embodies his identity and philosophies.

That is the type of “Pitt guy” we need.
