We will know a lot about this team after Saturday

If Pitt comes out fired up and wins like 49-17, I think its a good sign that maybe this team is pretty good and were just victimized by elite passing attacks.

If we win 45-42 or by some other close margin, we are probably looking at a mediocre team at best.

If we lose, probably looking at 4-8.

For a good year, we need to win the next 4.. It's as simple as that. Not a simple task but even if we go 3-1 with a loss to the hokies, going 2-2 into Miami and Clemson, we are looking at a sub-par year..

6-2, 3-1 in ACC, we got a chance to make it a good year. anything less is "same old pitt"

Well, Ron Cook basically said throw in the towel again, so....
It will be dark and damp and a small late arriving crowd.
I'll guess scenario 2 tomorrow.

I don't think we find out much of anything tomorrow.

- I expect Pitt to win by at least 10-14 points.

- I expect to see the same DB's.

- I expect to see a couple of blown coverages that lead to scores for Marshall.

- I expect to see more sacks against Marshall, with Price having a big day.

- I expect the running game to be stout and very few passes thrown by Peterman.

We will learn nothing tomorrow.

I agree. I have very little respect for marshall. Even if we win by 21, is it really gonna tell us anything? Get the win, get some kind of passing game going and check back here next week for some Retro uniform and facing the option talk.

I'm not even the least bit excited for this game. Pitt is a mediocre team without a quarterback or secondary. I expect Pitt wins but wouldn't be surprised if we lost either.

Very excited to see how Pitt responds from such a trying loss last weekend. Very excited to see the offense to continue to pile up yards and points as well. Hoping the front seven get more consistent pressure this week too.

What's to be excited about if you don't mind me asking? I'm not trying to give you a hard time I promise, but you kinda remind me of people all giddy and happy that a below .500 Pirates team beat the Cubs in 1 of the games. Great Jaso hit for the cycle, great we beat Arrieta in a meaningless game. Who cares?? The owner still did nothing to help the team and operates on the cheap.

As for you being excited about the offense "piling up yards"? We have no quarterback. All the guy can do basically is hand the ball off. For all your excitement about this offense we did nothing in the 4th quarters of these games which contributed heavily to their losses and we're playing a bad Marshall team.

Glad you are excited, wish I could feel the same.

I agree 100% with you. However, if we beat GT next week too I will be a little more excited. Unfortunately, I think 6-6 is a high watermark this year because year 2 of a coaching regime usually always struggled unless your the cream of the crop coach.

The "Pitt Will Be Pitt" Panthers would slog through tomorrow night and win unimpressively or, worse, find a way to lose.

But a solid performance against an inferior opponent -- a good double digit win -- is a sign of Pitt taking care of business. And I will be good with that; one step at a time.

Evidently nothing Pitt does can please everybody in this forum. But I get the vibe that it would be worse on the basketball board if we were in a similar situation about hoops. Gawd those posters take self-loathing to the stratosphere.

I'm excited because I enjoy watching Pitt's offense. Hopefully they mix in more pass and hit Matthews to get his confidence going. With some tweaks defensively and offensively, at least in the final quarter, Pitt could easily be 4-0. I like their chances to reel off 4 consecutive wins going into Miami.

As for the Pirates comparision? What the hell? Pitt's not out of any race yet and they've only played a single ACC game. A road game too mind you.

While we're on the subject, I do think this team will get better but I don't think it will be until next season.

Have you seen Pitt's recruiting class so far? All 3 star guys(sigh) except for Paris Ford. Rivals has it ranked in the 50's. Hard to be excited about that.

If a someone just randomly clicked on this board they'd think this is the Boston College, Kansas, Wake Forest board with all the "Pitt's program, season, team is terrible" posts. Yes the last 2 games have been heartbreakers and the secondary leaves much to be desired, but it's week 5 with a game on a Saturday night. Hopefully Pitt cures its problems and wins by 15 points or more. If they lose I will then become concerned

The time to get excited about a recruiting class is after they have signed binding letters of intent and actually make the field to play for the team. Until then, just premature wasted energy. Hail to Pitt!

I don't know what to tell you. Seeing as this season is only a 3rd over I'm not going to throw in the towel on next year just yet.

You say that after each loss, guess when we win one , we will know about them.

Pitt is incapable of throwing the ball. Any optimistic fan about an 7-8 win season is delusional. Just wait until someone shut down our run game. It'll get ugly. Quick.

Can you just seriously go away. Who cares if we have a lesser opinion of the program than a kool-aid drinker like you. Just unbelievable you want to act like the board tough guy.
How many wins this year with the current talent level would be acceptable to you?

After all the build up in the offseason about the team and the returning offensive line, Connor, etc.. I was TRYING to be optimistic. I was EXPECTING 9 wins with losses to Miami, Clemson and OK State. However I also was hopeful that they could get to 10. Boy was I wrong. In my opinion the coaching has been terrible, especially in the 4th quarter. Not only that, but Peterman looks atrocious, the secondary is terrible and we really don't have much of a pass rush.

So now what would be acceptable to me? 8 wins but with this team there is no way I see that happening.

Build up by whom? Vegas projected Pitt to win 7 games. We had 2 proven, good players coming back on defense. Any intelligent football fan would have said 7-8 wins would be a good year with our talent level and the schedule we were playing. Knowledgeable people would have also had Pitt at 2-2 after 4 games.

I'm excited because the Pitt Panthers are playing!!!

Can't help myself - my condition goes way back...

Go Pitt.
it's not a bad thing to enjoy the games, even when there are disappointments along the way. This team is still trending in the right direction; anyone that can't see the difference in how this team approaches the game isn't paying attention. Of course PITT needs to improve the passing game and secondary play. Help is on the way in both areas.

No disrespect but this Marshall team isn't as bad as some of you think. Last week against Louisville we held them to their lowest point total and scores more on them than anyone they have played so far. We still got pounded but we also played with a true FR QB who hadn't ever started a college game and had to against the #3 team. Our defense got pressure on Jackson on several occasions and also some sacks. Forced some turnover as well. If we would have had our starting QB the game looks a little different but we still lose. Our QB is no joke. He is coming off a concussion though. We shall see.

Who said Marshall was bad? I think most of us expect to win, but wouldn't be shocked to see us lay an egg. If you stop the run effectively...and can defend jet sweeps...you have a shot. You'll never see a team run more jet sweeps than Pitt.

Well this thread has gone to hell, and that's with the main offenders on ignore.

Anyways, SMF is largely correct. It is one thing to give up passing yards to Oklahoma St and North Carolina. It's another to do so at a record setting pace. It's also another thing to do so to PSU,and it would be another thing to do so to Marshall.

If it's a close game because it's one of those games, so be it. It happens.
If it's a close game to the tune of 49-42 and Marshall has thrown for 400+ yards, it, combined with the previous three games, would be a bad sign.
