Nice quote about Jester Weah in the Trib article:

"Another name surfaced in the quest to find complementary wide receivers: Redshirt sophomore Jester Weah.
“He had another good scrimmage (Saturday) and has really stepped up and made some nice plays,” Narduzzi said. “He has made some major improvements.”

Would be absolutely huge for Pitt if Jester could find a way to take it from the practice field to the games.

He's definitely a physical specimen. Hopefully his route running and hands have improved enough to make him a playmaker oppositite Boyd.

A good example of a project player who doesn't begin to produce until he has had several years of development.
Great physical tools, just needs experience.

Opponents no doubt know how fast & big he is & just by lining him up on the outside for a bomb down field can change the coverage.

The other team can’t take a chance on him dropping the ball so they will guard him with their fastest CB or give some help with the S.

Don’t be surprised to see this

Maybe he becomes our Martavius Bryant.. Big dude, all the tools in the world, send him deep and hit once or twice every few games..

Ya, I am sure Chaney has a plan for him that we will probably not see until we need to …...ala Iowa

I really hope you're right. Weah is an absolute match-up nightmare due to his size and speed. If his route running and hand-eye coordination can catch up, he could be fun to watch against smaller CBs or slower Safeties.

For the soccer haters out there, Jester Weah is a great example. His uncle is one of the greatest soccer players ever, George Weah, who won the Ballon d'or in the 90's. Jester immigrated from Liberia to the US at a very young age and took up more traditional American sports. Had he stayed in Liberia, perhaps he would be playing in the EPL or Serie A right now. His team would come play an exhibition game at Heinz and some would say that that player is soft and could never have made it playing "real" football in America.

Thanks for sharing! I see Weah coming in to stretch the field as he is just so fast. Renaldo Nehemiah II

Weah is a good example of how being a great athlete doesn't always translate into being a great football player. He is an athletic freak in the Terrell Owens mold but has apparently struggled with his hands and technique. He was somewhat new to football when he came to Pitt, if he can put it all together, he could be a factor. maybe that happens this season.

Well since Weah is only a sophomore, he hopefully can become a great example of why you take a flyer on a great and speedy athlete. sometimes they become weapons. The jury definately is still out on Weah.

Hope he pans out as a wide receiver, but if low on the depth chart, he may be a candidate for a position change with linebacker being a possibility. He already has the size and has way more speed than the outside LB position requires.

Played Jr. Raider Football with Skeets in my formidable years. Tackled him on many occasions. It was fun to watch his track and NFL career.
I remember when Nehemiah had his try-out with the Steelers, one of several teams who checked him out before he signed with the 49ers. The Steelers reportedly put him thru a battery of tests to measure his physical performance, just for the purpose of having a great athlete set the benchmarks for what their tests should yield.

It would make for an interesting discussion: who was the best pure athlete to ever set foot on a football field? Nehemiah? Bo Jackson? Jim Brown? Or _______?

Right now Weah is like Featherstone from Necessary Roughness..."don't throw it to Stone-hands!!!!!"

Back in the day freshmen couldn't play in a varsity game. Many of them spent their sophomore year on the scout team. Then as juniors they were ready to compete for a starting position.

Since Weah is a RS sophomore. This puts him right on schedule.

Hopefully good days ahead for Jester.

With out a doubt, Bo Jackson was a FREAK of an athlete. IMO, no one even close.

Big Question? How do you pronounce his name?

Weah as in Yeah?
Weah as in Wa. Like the former Canadian and Avs goalie Patrick Wa.
Weah as in Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.
Weah as in Wah?
Weah as in We-Ahhhhhh!
Weah as in Way?

Agreed. A friend of mine thinks its close between Bo and Hershel Walker. I keep telling him, no way. My exact words.........Bo was a FREAK.

From an athletic standpoint, Hershel Walker isn't qualified to handle Bo Jackson's dry cleaning. Bo was in a class by himself and is among the greatest athletes of all time.

I think it's pronounced "We Ah." Oddly enough, I checked last year's media guide and Jester Weah is not listed among the names in the "Pronunciation Guide."

But they did feel it necessary to include names like "a-DAWN-is" for Mr. Jennings and "voy-tick" for CV.

I hope we hear Billy Hillgrove pronouncing Jester Weah's name a lot this season, as in "It's caught by Jester Weah - we got a Panther touchdown!"

Go Pitt.

Super athlete. Voted best athlete of the first half of the 20th century. Jim Thorpe couldn't do what Bo could do and that is no knock on Jim Thorpe.

Jim Thorpe was a professional football and baseball star and an Olympic champion. He did more than Bo.
