This thought came to my mind when reading the thread about Colony's opinion of Jurcovek. I know it's far away, but it got me thinking.
What is it with a lot of kids from the wealthier school districts that always seem to leave at a higher clip than kids from poorer areas?
Off the top of my head I'm thinking Lugg, Kugler (although a transplant), potentially Jurcovek, Goldman, Park, Caputo (although West A has been good to Pitt). Also, I know that each of these are different cases, but the same can be said for the kids from rougher areas.
I know we have several Fox Chapel kids, have made up ground at USC, Bethel Park, etc., but it's still a lot more likely that a kid leaves the area if he's from a wealthier school district than from a poorer one.
Does anyone have any good ideas about this? You would think the kids from the rough neighborhoods would want to get away, but they seem to have much more pride in the city and region (Woody High, Aliquippa, Clairton, Beaver Falls). Are these kids more humble and want to have their family and friends be able to watch? Do the wealthier kids know that their family and friends can make trips out to ND, Michigan, etc. while the poorer kids know their family and friends can't afford it?
I know this can be a dicey topic, but I really am curious as to what some of the other reasons are.
