Weaver.. Out for Year

Yep... news breaking now. Terrible news for this team. Kid is a big time player.

Just a guess, and I don't know where their weight is at right now, but I'm thinking we might see either Watts (kind of a tweener coming out of HS) or Camp (experimented with him last year) move to DE. I like our backups at DT (and you can also move Wheeler back there) right now a little more than the inexperience we have at DE.

That is really, really bad news. A team without a lot of talent and depth can hardly afford to lose one of its 2-3 best players. And obviously it's a terrible break for the kid himself.

Sometimes you really have to wonder if Pitt football is snakebit......I mean, of the 110 guys on the roster, does this kind of stuff always have to happen to one of the 3-4 most important ones?

I know, but unfortunately this is what separates the have's from have nots. Alabama, Clemson, etc can absorb the loss of a star (which does happen there too) since they have so much depth. Depth is the key since the odds are you are going to be missing people during the course of the season,

I do think the depth is better now in Narduzzi's 5th year, but this is still a tough one to take,

This is complete BS. Why does this always happen to us? Legit just ruined my mood for this year i am so bummed out. Poor kid

Won't be Watts. Camp is the most likely to spend some time there, but I think we're going to see some young guys rotated in. Alexandre is the next man up, and then Morgan. Other names mentioned by Partridge the other day were Mimes, Haba, and the walk on Maloney.

Man this really sucks, but time for others to step up. Maybe Brandon George sees some reps there.

Even though they probably won't end up there in the long-run, it seems like Jules and Nelms might be a more ideal size for DE right now than some of the redshirt freshmen, such as Mimes and Baldonado. They might have to provide stop gaps at times throughout the season (with or without blowing their redshirts).

Big blow, but PITT is used to things like this. Bad grades, team violations, something always happens this time of the year but as stated before most programs have these problems it's just that PITT has a harder time recovering. I guess its "next man up".

Who let you in?

Plug-ins will bite on plays that Weaver saw a million times. This is what hurts. Young and talented will not replace experience. Add to the linebacking on that side and, well, yikes.

Very true. People like to examine things they can quantify, like sacks and tackles for a loss. But there is a lot more to this than finding someone who can pin his ears back and run full speed ahead. Very unfortunate.

It sucks, because this is the position you need to be strong more than any other in Narduzzi's system. If we play press coverage then we need ends getting pressure on the qb. A receiver will get separation in press coverage if you give them time... You arent going to replace Weaver's productivity... You just have to hope that someone else can do enough damage...
If you asked me preseason who the top 3 players we cant afford to lose are Weaver is definitely in the top 3...
Its a MAJOR blow...

At least it's at position with talent backing up. They'll live...
Not so IMO. The drop-off in talent behind Weaver should be great. We are trying to replace a potential All ACC DE here folks. This is a major blow for the Pitt defense with the lack of up front pressure that's now likely to occur.

It sucks. The position obviously won’t be as good.
But at this point Narduzzi has had enough classes that we should expect the bottom to not completely fall out of the unit due to one injury. If that’s not the case in Year 5, then it will never not be the case.

Weaver was very good.
The question though isn’t:

Has Narduzzi recruited well enough to where there is no drop off between Weaver and the backup?

The question is:

Has Narduzzi recruited well enough for the unit to still be productive against the OTs they will line up against?

That’s what I will be judging him based on.

There ain't no silver lining but at least better now than during the warmups before the UVA game. Recall Conner going down the first possession in game 1 a few years back. Ollison did Ok in replacement but I imagine the underwear of the coaches were a little discolored. At least Aug 9 this gives some brief time for the coaches to regroup.

I don't know enough about the replacements, but I don't think it's unreasonable to say
Pitt loses one game they would have won because of his loss...opponents keep drives going where his presence would have stopped it-field position, points, turnovers???
Get well RW

gomer, gomer, gomer! Ole Gom, Gman! WTF are talking about?
