- Well, its the football version of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge this week. 4 games and all could go either way. Huge week for the ACC. The league is off to an atrocious start in the non-con.

- Its also "complain about BTN week." Pitt makes its BTN debut and I said last week that the reason BTN decided on Wisconsin/Troy instead of Pitt/Iowa for their national 3:30 game was to get back at Pitt for recruiting BT schools for the ACC. It makes no business sense to have Wisky/Troy as the national game while relegating Pitt/Iowa to an alternate channel that 99.99999% of America dont even know exists. The ratings on that alternate channel will be absolutely terrible, but if Pitt wins, nobody will care. This is Delaney sticking it to Pitt, putting on PSU (our biggest rival) against Rutgers (a joke of a program that everyoen realizes shouldnt be in the BT) in HD while we're stuck watching Pitt/Iowa in standard def like its 2001. I might wear by Antonio Bryant throwback to commemorate. And for those that say they dont buy my conspiracy theory, that's fine. I just want you to make a business case for why BTN will make more money of Wisky/Troy.

- If you are one of the 4 Pitt fans liviing in Iowa, you'll get to watch the game on the regular BTN channel in HD. Everywhere else in American (according to a local newspaper report this summer) will have to watch the game on an alternate channel. For Comcast, its channel 470 or 471 and they are standard def. The other option is if you live in an area that gets BTN, you can download the BTN2Go App and watch in HD on that app. I can hook my phone up to my TV and watch it in HD there but I dont think I want to give the Big Ten a subscription tick by downloading the app even though I'd delete it right after.

- WTAE isnt giving the ACC much airtime so fall. Saturday, its going with Michigan State/Air Force instead of a pretty darn good game of Duke/NW. Though not released yet, I'm sure they'll show the Ohio State 50 point win over Northern Illinois at 3:30 instead of Miami/Nebraska game.

- NCSU plays on a new thing called the "American Sports Network," which is not really a network as you'd think of one. Its just an accumulation of miscellaneous sporting events (mostly college football/basketball) owned by Sinclair Broadcasting (who own the recently re-branded TV station 22 The Point). Sinclair owns some rights to CUSA and some 1-AA leagues. They also show a weekly live PSAC game and a live Friday night WPIAL game. Sinclair owns a ton of local TV stations all over the country just like Raycom so similar to Raycom, they bought some TV rights and have gotten into the syndication game. I'm pretty surprised though that the local Sinclair station, 22 The Point, didnt pick up the NCSU/ODU game.

- as for some picks, I said before the season GT is my playoff pick and I"m sticking to that. I think they're going to go 13-0. I also like BC to get the job done against FSU. This is the first of, 6 ACC Friday night games I think.

WTAE has no choice for the Miami/Nebraska game. It's either going to be on ABC or ESPN2.

This is a big week for the ACC OOC IMO. While not off to a horrible start due to the fact that it was mostly middle of or lower of the pack ACC teams vs top tier OOC P5 opponents in Week 1 and 2, and actually they didn't do too shabby against them, this is a much more evenly match field of play. Need to go 4-2 vs the P5 teams IMO. Especially have GT win.

Which means they'll go like 1-5.

As the ABC affiliate, WTAE gets their pick. They will choose the Buckeye @$$ whooping (remember, O$U is the #3 team on Pgh) and the Canes will be mirrored on ESPN2.

Alright. I thought the network decided in each region.

I didn't think the affiliate got to. My bad.

All alternate BTN channels on DirecTV are in HD. My feeling is Iowa may have WANTED a night game; it may not be solely a BTN decision. Also, I was under the impression anyone could get the BTN app for their phone/laptop, but maybe that's wrong.

Pitt will be on 470 in HD if you get Comcast Xfinity, 610-1 or 610-1 HD if you get DTV, and 588 or 588 HD if you get Dish. If you get another carrier other than Armstrong, just go to the BTN website, punch in your zip code and carrier, and find out what BTN overflow channel it's on. Most cable carriers will carry at least 1 BTN overflow channel.

If your cable carrier doesn't have an overflow channel, but you have BTN, you can stream the game to a regular TV using the BTN2Go App on either Roku or Chromecast.

If you are one of the few unfortunates that are stuck with Armstrong, call 724-628-5462, and tell them you want BTN by Saturday or you'll cancel your subscription.

Good Luck!

You must have BTN as part of your cable or satellite subscription to get BTN2Go. However, if you have that, you can simply download the App, and watch it on your IPhone, IPad, or big screen TV by way of Roku or Chromecast. And you will only really need to do that if your Cable Carrier doesn't carry any of the overflow BTN channels. Both Satellite companies and most Cable Companies do.

Got it. Thx!

SMF if you think Delaney is out to get Pitt then I'd also bet you have some alternate JFK and 9/11 theories too. You know who this 8 p.m. game screws the most? Iowa. Iowa gets zero exposure across the Big Ten footprint. Plus, they have a strong fan base in other states in the Midwest, namely Illinois, and those folks are scrambling to see the game just like all of us.

OK then, so why Wisky/Troy nationally at 3:30 instead? They think that game will bring higher ratings?

Its not a conspiracy against Pitt. PSU-Rutgers is a conference game, that should get priority over us playing Iowa. PSU is also a much bigger TV draw than Pitt and Iowa, which is also why PSU vs MAC school was on ESPN 2 last week while our game vs a MAC school was internet only.

BTW, the Pitt-Iowa & Rutgers-PSU gametimes were set back in April, Wiscy-Troy wasn't set until mid June. Its also PSU's only BTN night game this season.

Of course the fact that one of those games was a Big Ten home game and thus part of the Big Ten contract and the other was a MAC home game and therefore part of the MAC's less than impressive television package also played a large part in that.

It's in HD on DirecTV. I could care less what channel number it is. Everyone has had a discussion on providers and this is yet another reason DirecTV beats cable. You could even watch it on your iPhone if you choose.

This is telling me the affiliate has no choice on this game, and it is the network.

The truth is somewhere in between. Affiliates do have some say, but the networks can also tell them which game they have to take. If someone at WTAE had gone to ABC and laid out the case as to why they should be allowed to show Nebraska/Miami they probably would have been allowed to do so. But in this instance there was almost certainly no case to make, as WTAE is probably perfectly happy to show the OSU game.
