Welcome to Pittsburgh...

IF true it likley means Barnes was turned down but a bunch of candiidates. This is a less that inspiring hire. Keatt is much better IMO

We already knew he was turned down by at least a few. And no thank you to Keatts. I don't know much about Jacobsen except he's a good golfer. Oh wait, that another Jacobsen. Never mind.

Zeise said interviews tomorrow

Interview? That's a long way from being a "welcome to Pittsburgh" post. If he said the Press Conference is tomorrow, well, that's entirely different.

But I really don't want to spend any more time speculating. As others have said, "wake me up when the next coach" . . . is sitting at his desk at the Pete. I'm certainly willing to wait. Our first game with the new coach won't be for another 7 months anyway . . .

I had no idea he transitioned so quickly from football #Pittman

Well, Sean and Archie for starters.

jist because Archie said he had no interest it doesn't mean he was "offered" anything.

Just because you're on a search firm list it doesn't mean you are a lock to beat out the other candidates and be offered a job. Archie Miller staring he had no interest tells me only that he was contacted to gauge interest, not hat was offered anything. Based on what appears to be taking shape from the info out today I'd assume that first round interviews are over and they'll have candidates on campus for final interviews with others this weekend.

Jacobson is a very good coach, but doesn't play uptempo or have east coast ties. I think he could do really well here, but for those that wanted Jamie gone, this will not make them happy.

For those that say he must be way down the list, I heard about him on Monday from DT and it was thought that he was # 2 behind Sean.

Who do we know actually turned him down?

and I think Ben Howland, too, is among those who turned down Barnes

And to your last reply to me, I have no idea whether an actual "offer" was made to Archie or Ben or even Sean. Sean made it pretty clear through his Twitter account that he had no interest; from what I recall both Archie and Ben were quoted by a reliable source as not having any interest in the job. So regardless of any "offers" out there, we at least know 3 who aren't interested. As for others, not sure that I really care who did or didn't turn us down. The only candidate that matters to me, as a Pitt fan, is who they WILL hire.

i'm starting to wonder if enfield is going to end up being the guy. not saying he is the right or wrong guy.

Jacobson would be great as our coach 'cause he will add to those coaches we've had where posters always spell his name wrong!

Wannstadt - Brandon - Jaime - the list goes on . . .

LOL! Very true. It's gets embarassing at times to see how some people slaughter these names.

We know that both Millers turned him down. The rest is speculation because it's being kept very close to the vest. But I would think they at least talked to Marshall and he would turn them down.

Didn't Ben Howland turn us down also?

Most of the stories I've seen said some rogue booster approached him and Howland said he had no interest. There was never any contact between an official Pitt rep. But who really knows.

There are a lot of good coaches out there, and not a lot of competition for them. Just wait until Coach K, Roy, Pitino, Boeheim, and other big time openings occur. There will be some real competition for the best candidates.

Don't forget coach K has no interest, Bill Self has no interest and I betcha Boeheim has no interest. Do we count them as 3 more that turned Barnes down?

In the end, nobody will have turned us down and we'll have gotten the guy we targeted all along.

It's one of the miracles of college sports.

Not exactly an up tempo recruit your tail off type of guy.

Seems like Jamie without the pedigree.

Would have rather kept Dixon.

At this point I think we can probably conclude that Barnes was mostly hitting the buzzwords/phrases that people want to hear, and that his actual choice will not need to check off anywhere close to all of those boxes to get hired.

You don't say you want up tempo, exciting offense and then have guys like Sean Miller, Bryce Drew, and Ben Jacobson prominently named in the search.

Arizona's offense was 22nd in the country, and would be considered up tempo.

First off no has been offered the job Sean Miller agent had agreed with Pitt on some parameters on a possible offer then when came to meet they wanted outlandish conditions that no other Pitt coaches have so they agreed it wasn't going to work. Archie has never been considered maybe in John's eyes he had he wasn't

Pitt fans need to relax.

They get their efficiency in the same manner people complained about Pitt doing it -- they just kill teams on the offensive boards.

I'm not saying it's ineffective, I'm saying it's not a pretty, aesthetically pleasing offense which is what Barnes was talking about.

Well, I know one thing unique about Jacobsen's resume. There aren't many other head coaches that can say they are undefeated when going up against teams ranked #1 in the country. He's only 2-0 but that's saying something for a non-major head coach.
