Whole second half was run, run, screen.. run, run, screen.

No imagination... more conservative than Chuck Noll in the late 80s.

Browne is likely no Peterman, but we will nevwr know because Watson is too conservative to let him go down field.

I take it you didn't see the Villanova game last season. No one would have thought that Canada was an excellent coordinator either at the end of that game.

Canada wasn't Canada in week one

And just because Pitt isn't putting up asshole money like LSU doesn't mean Pitt was cheap

Vanilla game plan or not. Terrible play calling and worse QB judgement. I worry for the season.

It's not plug and play. I also said in the offense was going to take a step back this year.

We will know better after next week whether this was just a plain vanilla overconfidence driven mirage or what we really have.

IMHO, coaches tried to keep this so plain vanilla and were so overconfident at the half that they made no halftime adjustments. I think the team believed (both coaches and players) that they could just keep doing what they did in the1st half and win 42-0.

Pitt cruises in first half thinks they can in second ... but wins game

I see nothing shocking at all here and it's gonna happen in a lot of other games that shouldn't be close this weekend

Way too early to make this claim.

The offense certainly takes a step back this year.........but I highly doubt pitt plays this bad again this season

Yeah but that game was never in doubt. So you could hold out hope that that was just vanilla playcalling, because there was never any reason to put any sprinkles on it.
If Watson kept it vanilla in a game that went to overtime, he needs to be fired ASAP. Because that would arguably be the dumbest strategy in the history of coaching.

That's true, but Canada would have stepped on the gas pedal before ltttong that game get to be a nail biter. This was legit cause to be concerned about whether Watson has a gas pedal.

Yep we will.... and LSU fans don't make excuses to not go to games

By the way folks the section most full in 4th and OT?

The students.... again

Pitt brass made that offer to save face, they knew he was getting more at LSU. That move was RIGHT OUT OF THE PIRATES PLAYBOOK!

Actually, the student section was 1/5 full in OT.

Attendance overall was better than i expected today... through 3 quarters at least.

Pffft. There was no competition, no "offer". his leaving was assured. It wasnt even debated for a second at the time that Pitt was letting him go. Even the biggest delusional posters on our boards ... the ones who annually predict THIS is the year for 10 wins, dammit! ... didn't fantasize for a nanosecond that Pitt was going to lift a finger to keep Canada (which was not entirely true...Pitt lifted a finger all right... to the customers).

It's not the only sign of cheapness and lack of intent, merely the most recent high profile one.

Those harping on why our recruiting is so meh or how it can be that we have to resort to other programs reject QBs... think about how it looks to really elite players when your program actually stumbles upon an an actual elite coach, and immediately walks away without a whisper.

It was money , it's always about money , don't believe for a second it's anything else

Pitt scored three offensive TDs last year v. Nova. The last of which was scored with only 2 minutes remaining. YSU is better than Nova. Narduzzi is embarrassingly conservative in these openers v. FCS teams. It's like watching a second spring game.

"vanilla" doesn't explain losing one on one matchups. the pass rush was very weak and our pass protection sucked. the talent gap should allow us to still win those matchups which we didn't. you can only assume the talent gap isn't as wide as we need it.

Expect Jones Smith to be replaced by Hodges. And, Bookser moves into Hodges spot.

Next week, we all will see how much recruiting matters. I hope Duzz is right and got the players he wanted, and they come through for him

Not necessarily. See the UNC game from last year.

It is a bad way to be. One of these times it is going to bite him in the ass.

Today was almost that time.

It's also about being puritanical. 3 games, 2 of which are against your hardest opponents, for your best player, for something that is sold legally in the state now...this is essentially forfeiture.

Friendly discussion. If Watson fails , hope he doesn't , where is Pitt going for an OC, a top level program , MAC/lower level or a fired retread ? MONEY

Ok, ok, we get it. Yes, recruiting matters. Bama and the top recruiting teams will be at the top most of the time. Pitt is not going to recruit with them, so it is important to get guys that 'fit' the system, can grow in their game, and can be intelligent enough to overcome any deficiencies. Maybe that is what Pitt can do. They beat Clem and PSU, so 'overachieving' is not impossible. We, as fans, get be miserable and demean Pitt, or be positive and enjoy the games and season. I know what my choice is.

Oh yea - just like he did in the Villanova game. LOL

Like some others have said, this had nothing to do with an OC..they lost Connor, Peterman, and Blewitt...even if you had one of those guys in the game today this game doesn't go to OT. Max Browne is what he is. The kicker didnt look great today. You cant blame the OC on this one.
